eating at night question!!

im dieting right now. mainly just low carb, and watch my fat intake and calories i weigh about 195 pounds and im trying to get down to about 180. my diet is in perfect check, but this is my question. how bad is it to eat at night? my last meal (6) is usually at about 7:00 and i usually go to bed at about 12:30 or 1. the only problem is that at about 10:30 i get real hungry, so is it ok to have another meal? it would consist of a very lean turkey burger with some brocolli. what do you guys think of this? and if its not ok to eat this late how do you curb your appetite at night?
 
Starving yourself at night will only cause your body to store more of what you ate at your last meal, slow your metabolism down and cause catabolism (muscle breakdown)... This is certainly not what you want!

Eat a meal consisting of protein and healthy fats (such as EFAs or monounsaturated fats) before bed. This will speed up your metabolism, prevent catabolism and prevent an insulin spike...

Remember, carbohydrates are most responsible for the release of insulin and your fat cells are more sensitive to insulin later in the day. Your muscles are more sensitive earlier in the day.
 
I'll have a fatty fish or other protein with fish oil (omega 3) before bed. Usually no carbs for my last meal.
 
I save all my salmon, steaks and burger patties for when I come home from the gym in the evenings... Even though the servings are not that big, I find salmon to be a real hungry-killer.
 
Best meal before bed is cottage cheese with some natty Peanut butter or other good fat source, thats if you not counting the carbs from the cottage cheese

Why cottage cheese?
Because it digests slowly and you need that for a pre-bed meal since you wont be eating for the next 8 hours or so

Protein shakes with flax oil or All natty PB. You need fats to slow down absorption if your just having a shake. Other sources: chicken,fish,steak,turkey, lean beef, tuna.

Thats right on the money bro. I usually make a massive protien shake with peanut butter, but i only have half of it. Then when i wake up in the middle of the night to answer natures call [and it always happen, i can polish off the other half. Keeps the metabolism cranked all night long. :chomp:
 
My 2nd largest meal comes about 10 mins before bed..........no harm..........I also train in the evening which plays a large role...........
 
Not eating before bed is disaster...stopping carbs in the early evening is a sound practice, but one still needs protein. Eat slow digesting proteins before bed, like casein.

The chance of it being stored as fat, or undergoing glucogenesis (sp?) is very unlikely, while on a low carb diet anyway. Catabolism is a dieters worst enemy, avoid it!
