Dumbell Deadlifts

Case scenerio:

You're without a gym, and all you have for home equipment are dumbells.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I do dumbell stiff deads exclusively....both close stance with dbs to the side and sumo with them to the center of the body......add in lunges......squats and step ups and you have a good leg w.o.......sit a db on each knee and place a board under the foot and you have seated calf raises as well.

Seems like a reasonable alternative to me. The only think I'd make sure of is that you keep the DBs a steady as possible throughout the movement. DLs, especially SLDLs, can really fuck up your back if not done correctly, and you'll be giving up the stability that comes with using a bar.

Other than that, looks cool to me.

You can also use the stairs in your house to work out. A lot of people hate standing in one place doing step ups, so just use the stairs. They are also a great way to do cardio. A good friend of mine used to run the stairs in her apartment building in the mornings for cardio.

:)

Actually the movement is more stabile with the dumbells as the bells can travel a lot closer to the center core of your body as opposed to keeping a bar in front of your core.

To minimize low back involvement and maximize ham involvement, get a full stretch at the bottom and only stand up about 60-70%of the way up, as that requires mostly hams, glutes...the back comes into play more when locking iy out as the hips are forced to rotate forward.

Consider Keystone deads as well......

On a side note, velvett said she was working out with 135-145 on the barbell when she had access to the gym. Unless she has dumbells that go up to and over 70lbs, I don't think she'd have to worry too much about screwing herself up. Sorry to sound sexist, but I think I would shit my pants if I met a female who had 70+lb dbs in her home. I'd be impressed.

lol

You use a lot less with dbs

I use 275-325 with a bar and 70-80 dbs.
