Dumbbell bench vs. barbell bench

I would love your opinions on this topic.

For me I've found that dumbbell bench is more effective because it provides extra work to enhance the stabilizer muscles. I feel that db bench provides more benefits than conventional barbell to be honest. What are your thoughts?

I do barbell on Sundays and dumbells on Thursdays. Ever since I've started doing that my strength has increased and my chest looks better every week.

I generally do 6-8 weeks of each. That first 3 weeks when you swap back over is awesome, get great tear in the pecs. Then when strength plateaus, swap back.
 
alternate both.. you don't have to choose just 1 and do that everytime. I know a guy at the gym who flat benches 500 but NEVER does incline, decline, or anything else. his upper body is very unbalanced you can tell by looking at him. you must cover from A to Z.. having a balanced body is more important than being strong in 1 particular area. otherwise you are just going to have problems long term
 
Dumbbell bench is very under rated IMO
 
I always had a lagging chest but now that I switched from rarely doing dumbbell presses to doing them twice a week my chest filled out very quickly

I absolutely love DB bench press. I feel I get a lot better chest development from it, it puts a lot less stress on my shoulders, and I can go to complete failure without a spotter. I throw in BB flat bench every now and then, but I'm not like the typical gymrat that sits down at the bench every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Just recently I went 9 months without doing bench press, and made some great gains in size and strength
 
I agree with stevesmi . over developing one area can often lead to injury. although I prefer using dumbells over barbells any day. You may not gain as much strength as conventional barbell bench but you get a better stretch and is definitely more effective for lifters with pre existing injuries. ive had three shoulder surgeries and dumbells work great for me.. Barbell kills my joints. dumbells allow you to rotate your grip just enough to find a comfortable angle that allows a great workout with out the pain. DUMBELLS BABY!

This. Barbells kill my joints. I might not lift as much with dumbells but I'm in this for the long haul so longevity is more important to me than impressing some 140lbs teens in wifebeaters. Dumbells are better for me

I'll never forget a guy I used to see when I was 19 @ my 1st gym.....he trained chest & tri's every day he was there.....we still make fun of him 20 years later
