does squatting wreck the rest of your workout?

Squats are one of the last exercises I do on leg day. I had the same problem with putting most of my energy towards squats. And I won't do squats and deads in the same week.

i've picked SQ's for this training cycle. i do high pulls and barbell rows as my main back exercises. i still barely recover at times, though.....

It sounds more like the squats are wreaking havoc on your CNS system more than your muscles.

Why do you squat? What is the goal? For strength or size? Training for size I either do squats mid to last in my workout. If I do them as the first exercise I always do 15+ reps with them. I used to do low reps but it was just a waste of time for me. Once you wear out your tendons and ligaments straining with heavy weight, you're fucked.

I second that. Heavy squats are taxing on the CNS, at least for me it is. When I used to squat heavy (6 reps or less) the rest of my workout was a struggle. My tendons and ligaments were exhausted and I could never get my "second wind" like I do with every other body part. The shakes lol.

if you go max weights to failure on every squat day, yes it will.
But I do squats first b/c it's one of the few exercises that invite serious injury if done while fatigued.
