Do you wear gloves when you weight train?

I have always lifted weights without gloves, I have some pretty big callouses on my hands. It doesnt bother me though. I have never worn gloves when lifting. I am curious to know, how many of you wear gloves when lifting? Do you use them during all of your exercices, or just some? Does it really make a difference? Also, what do you look for in a glove before buying? Thanks. Sarita.

I wear gloves when I lift, not during cardio....I find I have a better grip when I wear gloves.....

I wear them too. I really don't want the calluses. Helps with grip. Really, I just look for comfort when I buy a pair.

If it involves lifting, pushing, pulling I wear gloves. I lift a lot of stuff at work so I don't really need more callouses on my hands & I don't wear them during cardio.

As a matter of fact I bought a smaller pair yesterday because I've lost weight in my hands over the last year and the old pair was getting loose. Even after being washed in hot water.

Back in the day, the size of my callouses was a "bigger dick" thing along w/ the rest of the guys I used to lift with. We'd wear the gloves but the complete palm area would be completely shredded and thus useless - but definitely a fashion statement.

I stopped wearing gloves when I went thru my little PL stint as the weak link in a good PL pull was your grip - thus straps and all the other little gadgets did not help you.

At this point I'm now on a kick to compete in BB but maintaining my "femininity" -- thus shredded hands do not a pretty competitor make.

Not to mention I"m currently job hunting and probably a rock hard, shredded and choppy handshake would probably be a deal-breaker w/ a hot tech firm.

I do now .. I wore my callouses with pride when I started lifting though .. I have pretty good success with Harbinger gloves ... I feel my lifts suffer without them these days ... I want to keep my hands 'pretty' so I use the gloves

I used to workout without gloves but my hands had a lot of callouses. Now I workout with gloves and the appearance of my hands has improved (together with hand creams and treatment).
However it took me a while to get used to the gloves.

In the beginning I didn't, just because I thought I wouldn't need them, but I did. I would get calluses on my hands and they would become sore. So now I wear them and I have notice the difference in the grip of the weights, it's a lot better.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm increasing my weights, but my hands do hurt a bit afterwards. Sometimes I feel like I cant grip the weight enough, like its going to slip- I think I will give the gloves a try. :)
