Do you curl as much as you press?

How do you guys get the dumbells up to your shoulders before pressing them? I just had up to 65 pound dumbells so I can still curl them and sit on the bench but now I got the 70 - 100 pounds but that`s gonna be a challenge. No spotters in my basement.

Either way, spatts, it's basically the same movement.

GL, just rest them on your thighs, then, one at a time kick them up to your shoulders. That make sense?

Well, with your chest, though, you can rock back and it's a lilttle more stable. For shoulders, you have to actually lift them at some point. I would pull them narrow with a hammer grip, and then go wide once I had the stability. I tend to be overly cautious with my shoulders though.

Shoulder press. I do that with my thighs when I bench press because I just plop down but if I did that with shoulder press I could`nt get back up! Unless I guess you gotta have some strong ass legs or abs to get those dumbells up to you shoulders sitting down. Maybe I just have to work on that.

just kick them up with your thighs. make sure you're against an upright surface (bench, chair) so that you have support to keep you from falling backwartd.

I haven't had any problems getting the 100's up for overhead if I kick them with my knees.

On flats? Hmmm...just stick with a bar...

i agree, BUT....

if need be, you do the opposite of the shoulder press. instead of positioning them out by the knees, sit down with dbells up high on the thighs and when you lay back keep them close to your chest. by the time you lay back you should be in a close grip bp position. just move the dbells where you want them and go to town. if you have a spotter, you may need help out of the hole. depends on the person.
