Do Olympic Lifts (Clean, Snatch, Etc.) have a place in bodybuilding?

Hi, I used to play football but now I am just interested in building muscle. I don't care about explosiveness, etc.

I stopped doing snatches, cleans, and deadlifts a year and a half ago. I am going to start deadlifting again, but is it worth it to start snatching and/or cleaning? I am short on time and I like my core workout as it is, but am willing to do what it takes to be as large and ripped as possible.

i feel that they can be effective since they are a compund movement, but in general i feel that they are better for powerlifting or sports training

yes they do, no exercise can build traps and an upper back like cleans and snatches, snatches also help to build a good solid torso and shoulders. every strongman and olympic lifter makes them a staple of their program and look at how big their traps are, imagine what they could look like on u if ur a bodybuilder and make it lean muscle. so yea id do em

Cleans and snatches also help to optomize your nervous system, which will lead to greater strength gains. Which in turn you can use to develop greater hypertrophy.

i wish i had someone to teach me the technique for olympic lifts :(

i am mainly a bb but any change in training can help, and those are big lifts involving lots a muscle, like deads and squats, which are both excellent bb exercises.

Yeah, if you no longer play sports then dont bother. They are classic strength builders so in that respect they could help your other lifts which in tern help produce more muscle mass.

If the main reason to do these exercises is to build traps, then I won't bother because traps are one of the easiest muscles to train and I have great traps just from heavy shrugs. In fact I'm going to maintain rather than increase my weight on shrugs because my traps are beginning to outpace my body.

I might incorporate a few periods a year where I do the cleans and snatches for the nervous system but I doubt I'll make them a cornerstone of my training unless I hear some comments that are way enthusiastic.

They do not just build the traps, but the muscles of the rhomboids, teres major and minor, levator scapulae, etc. Essentially all of the muscles of the upper back, as well as the shoulders. Plus, doing the snatch, or power versions, will keep the external rotators strong.

The best way to find a qualified coach is to go to
www.usawightlifting.org
Go to "about"
Go to Local Weightlifting Committess

Traps isnt the most benefitted bodypart of cleans!

Upper back works great too (when the weight moves up).
ANd you shoulders get really strong and huge.

Plus if you take the weight to the chest, your BICEPS gets really worked... Hey few hundres pounds vs 50 pound dumbell, you make a choice. Oh and cleans work your almost entire body the same way deadlift does.

Clean and jerk is the most muscle compound movement there is.
Better than dead, squat etc...

Clean and jerk is the coolest too!
