Diet Woes

I have NOT had a good week with my diet this week. Not that I'm on a diet, but I want to eat as clean as I can which helps me lose some weight/keep it down. Actually my weight of 134 is good for me & I'm happy there. I would like to be somewhat leaner -- more 'cut' I guess. But I allow myself to get into these "situations" & then don't stick to it! Ugh!! I frustrate myself.

For example, went to a grad party last nite for a friend. They had pulled pork w/BBQ sauce, meatballs, cake, veggies, rolls & French bread slices, spinach dip & beer. Didn't have any beer & had some veggies. Well, then I figured I'd have some of the meat since I didn't have time for dinner between the gym & the party. Which lead to eating some bread & then cake. When we got home, my stepdaughter wanted to bake a cake, so we did then I had to have some of that & again a piece tonite.

I'll never meet my goals at this rate.....Vent time over.

Just keep up eating right, maybe add something that week to counter extra cheating, some have an allowed cheat day just to keep their metobolic rate from slowing.

shoulda filled up on the meat quick before you could do any real damage!

are you counting your calories and stuff? if you're just playing it by ear you might be undereating chronically which would explain why you lost control.

yeah occasional refeeds are a nice idea too, I like to do them on a heavy lower body day

Oh I went for the meat first cuz I figured it would help! Not! Ate the cake anyway! Oh well.

I count my calories everyday via fitday.com. Thursday wasn't a pretty day numbers wise!! At least Thursday was leg day & did some cardio afterwards, so I don't feel AS guilty.

Thanks for the replies!

eating the meat first or any high protein food will help curb the urge for sugars and or carbs....adjust a little, this helps alot..

get your protein in first, as was said by PBR. it tends to be heavier which will fill you up faster. think of it this way: how easy is it to ball up a slice of bread and eat it....now how easy is it to finish an equivalent sized piece of chicken?

What's funny is that with me, I can be full & still eat. I was brought up to eat cuz it's there not cuz you're hungry or not hungry. SO, I ate the meat & veggies in a hope to be filled up & not want the cake, but even tho I was full I ate it anyway. I can eat regardless of whether I'm hungry or not & keep on eating. Ugh. This diet thing is tough.

I think it takes practice. I never could diet at all because I made such terrible habits as a kid. I've come SUCH a long way in terms of being able to control myself now. Changing gradually is the key I think

Tagio -- it does take practice, you're right. And just when I think I've got it down, I slide backwards. Now that I plan my food ahead of time, with carbs & protein ratios, etc I find that really helps. Plus I'm getting better at saying NO! It's hard to be clean all the time, especially out at a party like that.

I know about eating even when you're full - I have problems with that too. It just takes determination and will-power. It's rough, at first, but it will get easier. Once you've gone for a while without any sweets, you'll stop craving them.

Just visualize your goals and start viewing food as a means to achieve those goals. Look at it as fuel - the building block to a great body.

The long-term effects of eating healthy far out-weigh the short term satisfaction of eating that piece of cake.
