DEADS... deads.... and more deads.......

deads have been the cornerstone of my back routine for years, raw with no belt or straps, just love them

I think using straps is dangerous...plus it is important to me to have strong grip strenth...

Just think about it this way...your lower erectors can't lift 500 pounds, so you must be working more than just that. Deads bring your hammies, quads, glutes, erectors, traps, forearms, etc...all into the mix. And yes, they're good for cutting, just think of the amount of energy it takes to lift 500 pounds from the floor a few feet, that's massive calories. Plus the amount of muscle it adds is sizeable, which boosts metabolism.

I think people are saying straps can be dangerous because if you can't hold onto a weight, you probably shouldn't be lifting it...as long as you keep your form on point, straps should be fine...but definitely try to go without them if possible. Sometimes the grip slipping can alter your form, so there are risks either way when throwing around such heavy weights.

Dangerous 'cause you can move more wait before your back may be strong enough to handle it...plus it seems that the people I see using straps, their form sucks, cause they throw too much weight on the bar. Then again I saw ronnie coleman using straps...

Oh, and machine, make sure that when you're coming up...don't let your hips come up before your shoulders. Alot of people do this because at the start the weight is under the shoulders, this puts more emphasis on your lower back, and less on the rest (hams, glutes)...basically turning it into a good morning.

I agree that it would benefit you more to go without straps, especially for forearm growth, but I gonna have to disagree with the statement that you will move more weight before your back is ready for it. My back is ready for it if I can lift the weight with or without straps, its mainly an issue of building your forearm strength. 500lbs or higher is a shit load of weight resting on your fingers.

unfortunately i have really weak grip strength naturally and a pretty strong back, without straps i'd be doing 315 (barely). My back can definitely handle much more weight. Form is the key with or without straps. I think we'd all love to not use straps, i know i would love to not use em, but oh well. To build my forearms i do several exercises. There is a difference between strength of forearms and hand strength.

I agree. The way I look at it is like this, I can deadlift 405 for 14 with great form using straps, without straps the bar starts slipping out of my hands around rep 6. Every I try to do more and more without straps but my entire body will benefit more with 14 reps than 6. See what Im getting at.
