I guess this can be moved if needed, but I wanted to put it up here since there are over 300 more viewers in this forum then the training forum. After 10 years of training, I finally decided to add deads to my routine just about 1 year ago and absolutely love them. Last night I got 500 for a set of 5, not too shabby I guess. Anyway, I put a lot of time and emphasis on them, so Im wondering how many of you guys make these a high priority on your list. I feel that they have helped with over all strength, but I really cant see any difference in any 1 particular body part, such as lats or traps, since starting these. I do feel that my lower back is thicker, but I wouldnt want to be putting so much emphasis on these if all they are doing is making my lower back thicker. Are these definately helping me with over all growth? Im also thinking that I could benefit from these while cutting this season, am I correct in this thinking also?

With or without wrist straps? To answer your question—YES! I absolutely love dead-lifts. It is hands down my favorite exercise.

Here’s my little dead-lift story; For years I had back problems. And it would happen for the simplest of reasons, for example; one time I simply bent down to pet the cat and it threw my back out and I was in pain for weeks. Then I read a quote somewhere that caught my eye. I can’t remember it verbatim, but it went something like ‘a universal complaint is an aching back, yet almost any back problem can be alleviated through proper exercise, and the dead-lift is one of the best movements one can do to prevent a lifetime of back ailments.’

So I started incorporating dead-lifts and viola! No more back problems! All those years of pain, doctor and chiropractor visits were a waste of time and could have been fixed all along by simply doing back exercises.

I'm the only one of 4 kids in our family to not have back problems. Deads are a foundation of my back workouts. My brother who's had back and shoulder problems for years started working out with me a couple of months ago. I took him up slowly and made him concentrate on proper form and range of motion. He no longer goes to bed in pain and seems to no longer have the back issues that have plagued him for years. Not to mention that his shoulder flexibility has hugely improved and he no longer has the shoulder pain.

He's happy.

I'm also interested in the aesthetics...all I notice is that my lower back is getting thicker. I am stronger, but I want that trim midsection leading to a V-Taper...

I started doing them in October. My back has grown vastly since then. It has grown a fucking lot. I love deads! I know a lot of the pro's do them. And franco used to do them. And he's got a crazy back so. I don't see any problem with them.

Deadlifts are the backbone of my training. I have actually been doing rack deads lately and love them. Nice and fuckin heavy.
