Creatine and high blood pressure

nolimitxxx

New member
I have high blood pressure as i'm sure many do from aas. I am taking a water pill to reduce "excess water" (among other things) but i'm concerned about it affecting my gains - (muscles need water). Has anyone tried using creatine to feed the muscle from the inside instead of the bloat effect that aas have which raises bloodpressure? I've been reading some studies like the one below that say creatine does not effect blood pressure but I've also found others that are inconclusive. Any suggestions.

i don't think creatine raises your bp, you are good to go with that choice, its everything else that you got to worry about. I also have trouble with my bp, and take and pill to reduce fluid retention just like you.

Sorry if that link doesn't work - here's the article

Title: Acute creatine loading increases fat-free mass, but does not affect blood pressure, plasma creatinine, or CK activity in men and women

Abstract: Creatine monohydrate (CrM) administration may enhance high intensity exercise performance and increase body mass, yet few studies have examined for potential adverse effects, and no studies have directly considered potential gender differences. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of acute creatine supplementation upon total and lean mass and to determine potential side effects in both men and women. Methods: The effect of acute CrM (20 g.d(-1) x 5 d) administration upon systolic, diastolic, and mean BP, plasma creatinine, plasma CK activity, and body composition was examined in 15 men and 15 women in a randomized, double-blind experiment. Additionally, ischemic isometric handgrip strength was measured before and after CrM or placebo (PL). Results: CrM did not affect blood pressure, plasma creatinine, estimated creatinine clearance, plasma CK activity, or handgrip strength (P > 0.05). In contrast, CrM significantly increased fat-free mass (FFM) and total body mass (P < 0.05) as compared with FL, with no changes in body fat. The observed mass changes were greater for men versus women. Conclusions: These findings suggest that acute CrM administration does not affect blood pressure, renal function. or plasma CK activity, but increases FFM. The effect of CrM upon FFM may be greater in men as compared with that in women.

Sorry guys but you are misinformed.

Creatine can affect (i.e. RAISE) BP - it has happened to me. Since creatine increases your water retention, which is linked to increased BP, some people may find it also raises BP. My BP went to 140/90 while supplementing creatine, doc checked me out, suggested i stopped it and my BP came right back down again, now 105/50.

It just affects people different ways - it also messed with my kidney function, basically they were not filtering correctly while taking it, stopped, and all back to normal. (This happened twice - first time i didnt know what caused it)

I dont take any supplements or aas, just eat clean lots, so it was definately the creatine - this also happened to another guy i know (we used different brands of creatine).

Ur probably right - in the past few days since I posted this I've been loading creatien and two days in a row i've had my BP jump up to 247 . Luckly I have BP pills on hand to control it but BP that high is nuts.
