CKD (Cyclical Ketogenic Diets)

Hi All,

I am trying to do some brain picking... my trainer and I have decided to try a CKD. Reason being, I've tried everything else (I mean everything, including contest prep diets that have got me on-stage) and got some results, but I still don't look anything at all like I should, given the amount of time and effort that I am putting in.

I realize that the first phase of the CKD will involve shifting from burning sugar (glucose) as fuel to burning fat for fuel, and that during this phase I may not feel the greatest...

I have read tons of research, both good and bad, so am not looking for that sort of information, nor am I wanting to start an on-line war of any kind. What I am looking for is feedback from folks who have been on CKD's for an extended time... ie. those who were able to tough out the "fuel shift" and stay with the plan. What happened to you (how did you feel)? Did you get good results.

Any feedback would be appreciated! :D

Has anyone followed Mauro Di Pasquale's plan, specifically?

I am experimenting with the Anabolic diet right now.

I have been eating WAY over maintenance though, and I didn't do the 12 day start, I have been doing five days low carbs, two days high for about a month so far.

I have just started training heavy (doggcrapp), which I hope will work with it.

What I have noticed so far, for the amount of food I have been eating, I haven't gotten the belly I would usually get, and I feel quite solid.

I am just reviewing all the supps and I will be counting my calories starting next week.

I am going into a mass phase though, not a get ripped phase.

Thanks Tatyana!

I'm glad that you mentioned that you were eating way over your maintenance calories... I was reading just yesterday in Dr. Di Pasquale's book that for that first 12 days he wants a person eating 18 TIMES their bodyweight!!! in calories... that would put me around 3240... my maintenance is right in the area of 2500, so...

Are you gaining weight so far? That's what I'm afraid of on such high calories... but at the same time, I want to do the start up phase correctly in order to get myself shifted to burning fat rather than carbs/sugar.

Thanks!

Barb :D

I think I have been eating around 4000 kcals/day. I was only doing a bit of cardio and martial art/boxing training until last week, and I have started back on the weights.

I have put some fat on, but not as much as I would have expected coming off a comp diet and eating like a piglette. :)

I know I can lose fat slowly if I eat between 2200-2500 kcals/day and weight train 4 x a week, I can easily maintain at this level as well.

I do think this is one of the biggest mistakes women make with their training and when they want to put on muscle.........they just don't eat enough calories to do so.

I don't like smoothing over but I think it is a bit of a necessary evil for most.

I am going to have a more set diet from next week, as it will be 4 full weeks of the high calories.

Funny enough, I did this intuitively, and sort of out of a physiological necessity after dieting for such a long time.

I find that dieting in phases, so for example, a couple of clean up phases, or a high calorie but clean phase, or a week of I can eat whatever I want phase really seems to work for me.

Just trying to jump cold turkey into a diet never does.

This is one of my little pleasures right now, two slices of cheddar cheese with natural peanut butter sandwich.

Sounds odd but it is yummy.

I am also eating a lot of whole, raw nuts and red meat.

That sounds wonderful.... I know that if I ate that much excess calories in carbs, I would gain weight like wild! Sounds like it's working for you very well, especially if you are coming off of a comp diet. I've had some of the wildest weight gains EVER after a show... :chomp:

This coming weekend is Thanksgiving here is Canada, so I plan to enjoy my Thanksgiving and hit the Start Up phase on Monday. I have been on carbs and lower fats for so long that it is going to be weird to be able to have bacon, porkchops and cream in coffee!!

I'll have to start some sort of a journal...
