check out this bench press stroke PIC

I do not arch but i can if i want too. The reason i do not number 1 is i get no leg drive at all. Number 2 i cannot use my back at all. I am so pinched i cannot do big weight. So yes it is apples and oranges. I personally do not like that style at all. I bench a hell of alot more when i can get my legs involved. I use so much leg drive i have hurt my kneee benching before. So that style looks good but not for me. Of course i cant arch like that! Dam!

I cannot arch like that, if I could I would be putting up 600 plus. I can perform a double body weight bench plus a little, but I don't have all that much of an arch. I posted something on here a while back about my bench stroke being around 9 inches, and that is true without a shirt. With a shirt on I cannot arch nearly as much, and my stroke is longer, but with shirt assistance I can still bench a Hell of a lot more with the shirt, but I am sure as hell jealous of her arch.

I noticed in this last month's PLUSA that Scott Mendelson pressed 738 and in the picture it looked like he was flat on the bench, no arch that I could detect from that camera angle. I guess if you are strong the weight will go up, but I would rather press 4 inches than 8 given the choice.

If she was a little bit lighter, I might ask her for a date. Flexible women really do something for me.

Arching...

I certainly don't know from experience (being a rather weak bencher) but I would think that the heavier the bar weight becomes the more difficult it is to arch. You would have to have one hell of a strong back to maintain an arch with 600+ lbs. I know that when George Halbert put up 733 lbs. he didn't have much of an arch. He also lifted his head from the bench which would make it difficult to maintain an arch. I don't think a big arch is necessary to move big weight. What is necessary is perfect technique, brute strength and explosive speed. A perfectly fitted shirt also is key.

I had a problem keeping my butt on the bench, and after seeing George Halbert's picture of the 733 bench, I started putting my feet as wide as possible, and as far in front of me as possible. It worked great in as much as butt raise is no longer a problem, but strangely, it has yet to produce a 733 bench.

Back to the drawing board.

yeah, I forgot to post that I have a three different double denim shirts. According to a lot of people who like to talk about how much stronger all the old timers were, before bench shirts and squat suits, I should be able to throw those 3 shirts on the bench by themselves and watch from the crowd as they bench 750 lbs. Funny thing is, those damn shirts are lazy as Hell. They just lay around in my gym bag until I put them on and try and press something.

There might be something more to benching big than just having heavy duty equipment. Naw, couldn't be that, I know, i just need to have one more layer sewn onto my shirts, and get some kevlar added to the seams, then I will be an animal.

I know this is getting a little off topic here, but it amazes me how some whiny ass people like to talk about equipment and juice, like it is doing all the lifting and the guy under the bar doesn't have anything to do with the weight going up. Halbert outbenches me by over 200 lbs. But I am not going to bitch and moan that he does so because of some insidious reason. I am going to try and steal his ideas and hopefully catch up.
