Is casein OK on a ketogenic diet? I know you're supposed to avoid dairy products, and casein is derived from milk. Will it keep you out of ketosis? Any help appreciated.
 
It has about the same chance as any other protien, too much protein kicks some people out of ketosis. Actually it may have a little less chance of kicking you out than other protein since its absorbed more slowly.
 
Take Enocks advice and watch out for glucogeonisis. (sp). Also, depending where you get it from , carb count can get high (cottage cheese, milk). If you get it in pure powder form, carb count will be lower. Still, your main concern is protein turning to carbs. Be sure to get your ratios in check.
 
Yup, in moderation, foods such as cottage cheese (preferably with flaxseed or other oil) are a great addition to any diet.
