Cardio vs Calorie reduction

Gender, initial bodyfat and maintenance metabolism will also impact your approach to fat loss. A small women with a BMR of 2000cals per day would have to reduce her intake to 1000cal per day to achieve 2lbs per week of fat loss (a 50% decrease). Compare this to a large male who's BMR is 4000cals....he needs only drop down to 3000cals per day to lose the same 2lbs per week (a 25% decrease). In the case of the smaller women it would seem prudent to add in some cardio to keep her calories up. Trust me, 1000cals per day is no fun and is really too low to get adequate nutrients. 3000cals is not as stressful. Also remember that eating submaintenance causes increased cortisol with or without exercise.

Obese people can lose fat with little LBM loss no matter how they create their calorie deficit. lean people have to be more careful.

With for example a 10 BF%, a 120lbs one has 12lbs of fat, and another one who weighs 240lbs 24lbs of fat. If they lose 2 lbs a week, the first one will lose 1,5 BF%, the second one 0.075%.

What I mean is that light people should not target a 2lbs fat loss per week, it may be too much.
