Cardio/muscle Loss

I was back on the treadmill today and burned about 620 calories. Im going to feel it out and see how it goes. I dont see why I cant watch my diet and be sure to eat reasonably for the calories expended. Ive also heard that 20 minutes does virtually nothing, and 30 minutes is a limit at 3 times per week. I look at it this way. There are a lot of pretty strong dudes in the NBA. U think they limit cardio to 30 minutes 3 times a week? Of course not. Kobe Bryant, I seen him in his new commercial using some Wside method of chains on his squat. U think with the record hes goin at (40+ points per game) hes getting weaker? Naw. And I saw him squatting 6 plates at least 45# a piece, actually looked like more, and some cookies, and chains. He can also jump so high his shoulders go above the rim, Ive seen it. Also, the dude is cut. So Im just gonna go for it. Im gonna bust ass and go for about an hour 5 times a week at around 650-700 calories burned per session :fro:

never base your workout after the success/results/methods of a world class athlete. ANd chill with the red font

best way is what you said, try different ways/intensities/lengths of cardio and see what works best

i've found for me that playing 2 hours of basketball 2 or 3 times a week is just what i need to keep fat at bay and the skin tight

thanks for the response. Im not basing it on Kobes workout. Thatd end in failure of course, but my point is hes doing it. Im not doing anything I cant keep up with. The routine Im doing Im walking and jogging alternating back and forth. I do a thourough warm up and then jog at 6mph for 100 calories, then walk for 30 calories (about 5 min I think), then jog again for 100, and so on. So its really not kick ass just yet.

Yeah man, the reason people stress not to do much cardio on these boards is because they're geared towards bodybuilders and powerlifters, and their main goal is size and strength. In order to optimize gains, you shouldn't do cardio if you don't have to when bulking.

I'd say to try some olympic lifts. You'll get explosive strength, speed, and remain rather lean compared to conventional lifting methods. At least, that's my take on it. You should talk to CCJ...

I find intensive cardio a better fat burning method than basic cardio ie Sprinting and boxing.... This is because it allows you to keep more muscle than regular cardio IMO. My cardio workouts are very intense ad last only about 20-40 minutes.

I find joggin for many people to be impractical. Many people want to be fit in their general sport, so why train to jog unless jogging is your sport. My goal is to have explosive power and agility, this put together with better fighting techniques, so why would I train to jog.....

interval sprint training, sled dragging etc... It actually builds some muscle instead of just eating away calories that you need to grow...

im a bodybuilder.

i started dieting at around 265lb back in january. im walking on the treadmill for 30 minutes on wednesday, friday, and sunday. for the first 5 minutes i walk at 3.5mph then for 20 minutes straight i walk at 3mph. then i go back to 3.5 for the last 5 minutes. now im down to around 240-250 lbs, but im wearing a 30 weight vest for cardio. i will up it 10 lbs in april and then 10 more lbs for a total of 50lbs extra weight. by that time i will be around 210 lbs....... plus the 50lbs puts me at 260lbs (approx my original weight)

like I say Im not tryin to do the "Kobe" workout. Im not lean right now and need to lose excess fat. On the other hand I dont think strength needs to be lost doing it. I agree if I did wht Kobe did Id never make it thru the first work out. What im sayin is hes pretty damn strong and he does a lot of cardio. He has to. No way he can keep up wht hes doin without it. Jogging/walking is my method for losing fat. Jogging is involved in nearly every sport, so its a good way to condition yourself in general. Wht Im doing right now is interval training in fact, I walk for a period of time, jog at a moderately intense pace, then walk, etc. Thats wht I can handle right now. Conventional interval training like u say involves jogging slow, sprinting, and jogging, etc, but I cant handle that at this point its wht Im working up to. 5 days a week seems a bit much now that I think about it, I may end up doing every other day, ending up with 3-4 times/week. Thanks for the help guys. Once again, not trying an advanced super athlete kobe workout, but everyone starts somewhere.
