Cardio is Bullshit

Cardio Negatively Impacts Strength Training

An article from Physical Sep 2001 issue cited a study from France that appeared in the International Journal of Sports Medicine.

12 competitive triathletes were tested for peak torque of the knee extensors, electromyographic (EMG) activity of the inner and outer thighs, and the height of a counter-movement jump (starting from a standing position, squatting and then jumping). When quadriceps muscle strength was analyzed after the run, researchers found a significant loss in jumping ability and a loss in the eccentric contraction capabilities of both inner and outer thighs.

The decrease in muscular strength followed prolonged running exercise seems to be dependent upon the type of muscular contraction, with a greater loss occurring in eccentric actions that concentric ones. The larger eccentric strength loss was not due to a reduction in neural input but rather to a failure of the contractile mechanism, particularly in fast-twitch fibers.

RECOMMENDATION: Try varying the days on which you do heavy cardiovascular exercise. Do your serious aerobic work on the days you train your upper body, and lay off the running on your leg days.

HOw about this!

When i'm on contest diet i can keep on with much higher cal intake when i'm doing cardio every day!
The difference is that you can hold much more muscle mass AND get ripped! When you lower cal to much , you'll lose fat AND a lot of lean body mass! That's the difference! Also for the heart cardio is a must !!!

you dont have to run a marathon to do some cardio, a couple of 20 minute sessions a week will do fine, there are to many benefits of cardio not to do it. One of the limiting factors in building muscle is the ability to supply nutrients to the muscle, this can be made more efficient by doing cardio. Also i personally would sooner drop 200cals from my diet and burn 200 cals doing cardio rather than doing 400 of just 1.

200 cals??

What kind of cardio do you do to burn only 200 cals in 20 minutes? I burn about 600-700 calories in that time! I use the exercise bike on the highest resistance level (on a resistance scale with 25 levels). I pedal at about 50 rpm at this level. It is not difficult for me to burn 600 calories in 20 minutes at that rate.

i used it as an example, i havent a clue how man calories i burn whenever i exercise, dont even know how many calories i consume in a day.

Sorry dude but I think you're mistaken in your views on cardio, the human body needs cardio to stay healthy and intense cardio is not the best way to burn fat, your body is in optimum fat burning mode when your heart rate is at 50 - 80% of your MHR!
Rather than go through the reasons why visit this thread by a bro called fhg43 cos it's well worth it and very much to the point!
Reasons to do cardio...my 02 cents!
;)

i walk for 30-50mins after my weights training in the am, and 60mins in the am on non-weight training days.
Im a female w a bf of 21% wanting to get down to 18%.
Is this a good plan?
I weight train 4xp/w and cardio 6xp/w.
I have a clean diet. What kind of diet would you guys recommend for me. I feel 'stuck'!
