Calves!! I need advice and experience, is my routine sound?

The important question here is... why the hell would someone with Cobra in their name be hanging out at an ls1 website?:)

They're always sizing up the competition and giving us a hard time about those damn 03 Cobra's! :(

Cobra: I really go by feel in terms of number of sets for my calf work, but it normally works out to be something like 3-4 sets per exercise. I work both the soleus (seated calf raises) and the gastroc's with my standing calf work. I like to prioritize the seated calf raise first, because I cant get a feel for that movement if my calves are already pre-exhausted from standing calves. Also, when I did the seated work first and nice and heavy I saw the greatest calf gains ever! (In fact a friend of mine who already has awesome calves that I envied, asked me when the hell I got calves cause he was so impressed......yet I still think they suck!) But of course once in a while I'll mix it up and do standing work first. I have worked the front of my calves before (anterior...something or other) but in all honesty I never really focused much on bringing that area up, although it wouldnt be a bad idea. Hope that helped.

ls1.com is a great site no matter what, you don't have to drive one to enjoy the forums. blkws6 thanks man, I think that's how I remembered it, doing the soleus first and then the gastroc.

Cobra, my advice may not be helpful due to my excellent calf genetics but here is what I did today (will hit calves again in 9 or 10 days).
Toe press on leg press machine, 1350 ibs. fast reps with a focus on peak contraction. I failed on rep 52. Rested 15 seconds then squeezed out 14 more reps, though I did them abit slower because I wasn't strong enough to do the faster reps after the first set.
Think about it people. If you give it everything you have on your first set while training a given muscle, there is no way you are going to replicate the same level of intensity on later sets. If one cannot generate as much intensity, one is probably not recruiting additional fibers...thus one is probably not stimulating additional growth. So my question is, why the need for so many sets?

I tried that 75 rep shit...wow, i had two major cramps on the back of my legs, It was nice!! I was sore for 3 days, gonna do it again today!!
