Cali's Road to the big 4-0

Heres the post Cg ....After watching your vid several more times you deff need to lower your hips more. So on your off days do this. Keeping your back as str8 as you can, drop down into a squat just like a baby does. For the first few time just hold that for whats comfortable.
But then after the first few times do it like this.
Drop down into a babies squat.
Keep your back str8!
Now take steps...walk! We call this duck walking.
This will help loosen you up fast!
Just do it for a few mins several times per day on your off days.

Then go over to the Deisel site and

Thanks Donna. I'm going to try these out and see if it will help loosen me up. Even just the dropping down and holding it should help to start. I've been really focused on fixing my arm the last couple months that I've not been doing what I should for my lower back so gotta get going on that too!

Hey Cali!

So great to have your posts to follow. You inspire me. Try not to be too hard on yourself about speed of progress. I have found in recent years that no fast results are good results.

A lot of women have substantial sports injuries because of the way we lift. it's like we are going for respect on every rep. That's not a bodybuilding workout, though, right?

Lay the foundation now. Bust down what isn't serving you. I will be breaking my foam roller out today too because of your motivation! PT the crap out of those injuries.

I am truly stoked to watch the next chapter of your career unfold. Baby steps. Make em good!

You're so right about being patient. I remember intially after 3 weeks of rehab treatments I was so depressed and here we are 8 months later. I have to remember that as I start to train again and really pay attention to my body.

The foam roller is amazing! Who would have thought!! :)

You can do it. I just hit 39 a week or so ago. A quote that I live by now is the following:

"It is not daily increase, but daily decrease. Hack away at the inessentials."
-Bruce Lee

Focus on you. Cut out the bs and the people who bring it. Only you hold the key to your happiness.

I love the quote! So true...it's amazing how simple life can be if you make it that way! It makes such a difference.

You definately can do this!! I'm right there with ya in shooting to compete this year. Hoping I can gain enough muscle for figure...if not, then may have to do bikini. I'm so darn shy though, hope I can do it without passing out on stage. I'll be following your progress and cheering you along!

Thanks Lori! Anything I can help you with, let me know. I never thought I'd be on stage in a bikini and yet as shy as you are, once you walk out there....it's the best feeling!

I was hoping our country would bring in physique this year, as I'd love to move out of figure but I don't think we'll have it yet. Women's bodybuilding, here, where I am, is so variable. It's not necessarily about being the biggest (at the level I'd compete at) and if I could have great conditioning I may do that category but...I'm still thinking once I cut down, I may still be figure. We'll see!

Yesterday's workout was a focus on arms and trying out different exercises, mainly with the triceps, to see what I can do and what my pain threshold is. I did a couple biceps exercises too. Rep range was all 12-15 as the weight is light.

Tri pushdowns - 3 sets @ 60 lbs
Overhead Rope Extensions - 3 sets @ 45 lbs
1 arm cable extension - 2 sets @ 15 lbs, 1 set @ 30 lbs (only got 5 reps per arm here)
Kickbacks - 3 sets @ 12.5 lbs

Incline hammer curls - 3 sets @ 15 lbs
21's with bar - 3 sets @ 30 lbs

Incline abs with 25 lb plate - 4 sets to failure, which is usually between 17-20 reps

20 mins cardio, which was intended to be HIIT and turned into not HIIT!! But...still felt good to do it!

I also have about 4 other stretching type exercises I have to do every day, plus my date with the foam roller, where I look like someone who is special needs rolling around on the mats. I really need to buy my own!! ;)

Overall, my arm is pretty good today. I felt it on a couple sets last night but there's no real pain today. The next 2 workouts will be the test with shoulders and chest. I have another appt on Tuesday but he asked me to go do some workouts in between so he could see how it's feeling. So far, so good! :)

I have to post a pic of my new training shoes! I have officially joined the "club" for these shoes. My son says I look ridiculous, even though he owns a pair of black ones. LOL

I will just say that when you put them on, you're sold. They feel amazing in the weight room. I bought a pair that are intended for things like running but did not really like the feel of them on the treadmill last night, which is one of the reasons I didn't do HIIT. Maybe it just takes some getting used too.

Looking good in here cali. How did the tricep do? Feeling strong I hope. I can't believe you are training In vibrams. Lol

LOL..I know...could I be any more ridiculous?? Believe me...I'm taking some heat about them!!

Tricep feels great! I did shoulders tonight and will get that up later but the shoulder/ arm is feeling good. Only a slight tweak when I did ohp but I kept it at 12.5 lb db....felt wimpy but kept it low. I think I'll have a bit of soreness on that side but compared to even 2 weeks ago, just lifting my arm up....it's much better!
