ok...so I actually watched this video....
I normally don't scream police brutality but this is appalling to me.
I've gone into plenty of environments where cops have actually been bit and not one cop I've worked with has been provoked to shoot anything other than a dying animal.
The dog freaked when its owner started being taken away..which is pretty normal for the breed or any strongly bonded dog. The owner shouldn't have left the windows down so much ...the whole thing is a fucking mess. The dog jumped once and got dusted? I didn't have sound for the vid and hope I never do. I can't see how that was the first course of action at all. Why is an officer that's obviously afraid of the animal (by his body language) the one approaching the animal with gun drawn??
I got sick just seeing it without hearing it... I knew I shouldn't watch it. This pretty much ruined my day utterly.
you know what semper? I think you're an alright dude...but if you think any of that is ok/procedural you need to be re-trained.
oh and the difference between macing or tasing the dog vs shooting it is...at least there would be room for argument. Here the cops keep dog treats on them as a first line...then the animal gets hit with mace if need be and contained while animal control is called. Try dealing with a dog thats utterly out of its mind because its owner is dying.
That youtube video is edited. You have to go to one of the shock video sites to see the unedited version. the dog did actually lunge at the officer a couple times.
that video showed a couple of low to the ground lunges...(hardly gonna get killed that way)one one serious lunge.
I can't see the dogs face and don't know what its intent was (or read its posture in that vid)..for all I know its a spazzy animal that jumps like a lunatic whenever it sees anyone
I do see a dog approaching with a low head which is actually a very good sign in a dog approaching someone...its submissive.
I will believe shooting the animal was uncalled for based on what I've seen and an absence of better information.
