Bloating

Is there anything to take or eat that will help deal with bloating? I heard to watch sodium intake, is that true? I hate feeling like I'm fat... cause I know I'm not, it just sucks!! Help...

Is the bloating diet-related? When do you notice the bloating? Maybe a certain food or group of foods are causing the bloat.

Dairy can cause bloat, some veggies (like broccolli for example), beans can cause bloating, glutin (like in breads and pastas). Some protein powders/drinks can bring on bloating too. Even excess proteins can cause bloating (digestion issues). For that, some find ginger root helps digestion go smoother.

If is it just WATER RETENTION bloating, then watching sodium intake, and keeping water intake HIGH - like over a gallon a day - can help alleviate it.

Also, adding more potassium to your diet helps the aldosterone-stimulated sodium/potassium antiport system to eliminate more water. So, hope you like bananas... ;)

Thanks guys :) I'll try some of those suggestions... I can't really pin point what the cause is, could very well be period related or food related. It usually lasts for a few days to a week. I never used to get bloated b/c of my period, so that why I thought it could be something else. I'll keep an eye on what I eat and how I feel after to figure out what the deal is. Thanks again

Drink lots of water. lots. and lots. and lots.

At one time I tried that method to deal with some menstral bloatosity but then I read that substantial fluid intake within an hour of eating can interfere with proper protein absorption. I assumed the article meant that the digestive enzymes would be too diluted to do their job sufficiently.

papaya enzymes work great for digestion...plus they are (usually) chewable and taste like candy! Yumm!

Dandelion Root is a good herbal diuretic if you are retaining water.
Along with Papaya Enzyme for digestion, I find that Ginger Root really helps me with my digestion. Especially with my protein shakes. I take 500-1000mg of Ginger Root before each of my protein shakes. :)
