BEST all-around fighting style?

sfwolves78

New member
i assume this has been asked before and my intention is not to start a flame war.. with that said..

if every fighting style fought each other, who would win? what is the best all-around style? if robots learned these practices (same specs per person), which style would come out on top above all else?

this is random sorry just curious

there is no best all around one it simply doesnt happen and it totally depends on the fighter.

NONE, you have to cross train

wow, thats a great idea, a competition with no rules where any style can enter, someone should orga.... oh wait, it already happened in 1993, it was called the UFC, BJJ dominated.

actually the OPPOSITE of that happened .

ANd "BJJ" didnt Dominate , the Gracies did .

A Family of ppl with no Jobs that trained in Martial Arts 10 hours a day every day for 20 years , then hand picked ppl to fight with less training and Experience than them .

Im gonna say BJJ.
If you dont know what to do on the ground, your fucked.

He's saying "all around" though, and as a BJJ practioner, BJJ is not an "all around" art because it has no strikes. I'd say

Combat Sambo
Combat submission wrestling
Sport Ju Jitsu

or basically anything that follows an MMA ruleset so you can knock out ppl standing up, or just submitt them if you're ever on the ground and not out of your element, that way (and vice versa). To be "all around" you gotta have some ground fighting, and standing up, and maybe some weapons training too- that being said, I don't think there is one style that emphasises all those dimensions , so you gotta cross-train. If I had all the time/money in the world, I'd train:

Muay Thai/ San Shou
Boxing
Wrestling
BJJ
Sambo
Kali
Get-piss-drunk-and-beat-the-shit-outta-ppl style

BJJ dominated???? thats news to me, and probably news to people like Chuck Liddell, Silva, CroCop, etc.

You need both to be truly well rounded. Don't discount plain old western wrestling either.

Wandy is a Black belt in BJJ, cro-cop also trains in it as well, and liddell hits hard but is very overrated, could you imagine him vs arona, or him vs shogun?

In any event If you had to pick 1 and only 1 I would probably take Combat Sambo, despite the fact that my two main arts are BJJ and MT

It was fun to see all the gracies get worked by Kazushi Sakuraba....

well , when they met a guy whos JOB was rolling around all day it wasa a little different han taking on the YMCA Shotokan Instructors that they were used to , I suppose .

i was talking about the first UFC, before Silva(eve tho hes BJJ), Cro cop and Lidell. But just for the record i love both boxing and muay thai and olympic wrestling was the 1st combat sport that i did.

it's interesting seeing everyone make thier judgements based on what they ses in UFC/K1...

Now in a street fight with no rules , what style would you like best

whoooo, i knew it was gunna boil down to this, i personally would rather a combo boxing+muay thai (yes i have been in may streetfights, and i mean between 1-3 on 1 and no weapons). Now i know the 1st UFC's favoured the Graices slightly, but BJJ still showed of TMA hardasses what real deal was.

yes, you are correct to say that even the UFC does not imitate a true street fight for the fact there are 'rules'. This being said, I would stick with a striking sport, and PUNCH FIRST when encountered.

I just don't see where you would want to go immediately to the ground in a true street fight on a road, concrete, etc. I'm not saying that a fight never goes to the ground, BUT if you can end it with a couple punches, I think that is the best way.

Bullshit , man .

The fact is that BJJ IS a TMA . It has Belts , Codified Techniques , A Gi , It COMPLETELY IGNORES an ENTIRE RANGE of Combat (wait , TWO Ranges , actually) Techniques named in a funny Ferrin language , it takes 10 years to get a Black Belt ... Its a bloody TMA , And it always has been !

Secondly when your "BJJ Guy" has over 20 years of Training and , well , everyone else has less than ten , thats whats going to happen , the guy that LIVES in the Dojo - Was BORN in the Dojo along with all his BROTHERS , SISTERS , COUSINS , AND SECOND COUSINS is going to stand out . The YMCA Instructors are going to fall to the wayside . The only thing that ANY UFC has EVER "Proved" is that it takes a LONG TIME to become good at Martial ARrts , just like anything else .

Any System or School that Trains (Realistically) to a San Shou/San Da/Lei Tai Ruleset .

Xingyiquan
Taijiquan
Baguazhang
Praying Mantis
Bajiquan
Wushu (yup , I said it , ALL the best San Da fighters are Wushu ppl , bet you didnt know that !)

Why ? They know how to use the Ground as a weapon . They know how to Throw and how to topple their Opponents and they know how to fight in the Kicking , Punching and Clinch ranges . THey know how to Control Space and now not to be Bullied about (Get tossed off the Lei Tai and its Over)

I'll keep my .45 locked and loaded and let everyone else worry about who would win. In a street fight with no rules - he who hits first and hits hardest will win.

Taijiquan? hahah yeh Tai Chi is awesome for fighting, good one. I was under the impression Fedor was the best fighter in the world at the moment, looks like i was wrong, its those old chinese ladys in the park.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that when the UFC first started there were no gloves, there were no time limits and there were only 2 rules, no biting and no eyegouging, yes the ground was padded but if you get slammed down hard enough you'll get knocked out anyway. Are people trying to say that some 5 style animal kung fu didn't win because they couldn't bite and poke eyes?

Thats not TaijiQUAN its TaijiQIGONG There is a DISTINCT difference , and the fact that you dont KNOW that one is a Style of Yoga and the other a Fighting system is just a testament to your aBility to walk around with Blinders on . In fact , theyre aBout as related as Yoga is to BJJ (I mean , theyre Both Rolling around on the Ground , Right ?) Or TaiBo is to Muay Thai . For every 10,000 ppl that do TaijiQigong there is perpahs 1-10 that does TaijiQUAN .

You know , its a lot easier to sound condescending when you actually know what it is youre talking aout . ANd no , Fedor ISNT the Best Fighter in the world . THAT guy is in a Level 5 Security Lockup somewhere .

No , were saying that the first UFCs were "Invitationals" and no one from the top levels of ANY system were "Invited" . Were was Keralin ? Kurt Angle ? Tyson ? Holyfield ? No Recognised Fighting Master of ANY system was there , no Judo Olympians , nothing . They had Recreational MAists against Pros . Period .

ANd hte aBove argunment is SO stupid . IF a guy has "Pokeyedo" and has mastererd it , and is undefeated in 500 fights with it then he should e allowed to use it . Thats aout like saying "WHy Cant you pussies fight without Rolling around on the Floor ???" ANd Yes , Its Legit . ANd the Ground Being soft Changes things a LOT , not just a little . Dont try to play that down . YOuyre NOT going to the ground with AkeBono on Asphalt . Not unless youre Suicidal - THats just a FACT !

LOL,
You've never seen someone get slammed on concrete??

Well unfortuantely a hurricane did a number to my old high school or I'd show ya...

But I hear ya on the overall point

Umm , Bro , I HAVE seen MANY ppl slammed on Concrete - and done them myself - that was my Point . Anyone who HASNT would talk like Reakt does - he thinks theres little differnence on a Mat , and hes dead wrong .

Well unfortuantely a hurricane did a number to my old high school or I'd show ya...

Dude , Im with you - its Reakt that needs to get out of the Dojo and see somethign happen in real Life !

Oh , and dont let your Mouth Write CHeques your ass cant cash , my man . I weigh 400 pounds - Demonstrating on ME takes WORK .

Umm , well , I eat a lot of Meat and Stuff , I typically get it from places like Sams Club/BJs and I buy by the Case . I do a LOT of Frozen Veggies (Cost) and a lot of Rice , typically Thai Jasmine Rice . The wife gets lots of Free Pasta Coupons (she works for some of the biggest food cos out there doing Customer Service as a Senior Call Floor Director) I Tend to eat 3-6 Pork Chops or about 6 chicken Thighs at a sitting . I tend to buy Thighs because I can get them Boneless and Skinless for like .50/lb and just go to town . Ill also a lot of days get a Rotisserie Chicken ($3-$5) , pull all the Meat off of it , add a $1 Spice Packet Tortillas/Salsa/Cheese and turn it into Fajitas - a meal that would have cost me like $50 at Don Pablos ends up running us like WAY less than $10 ! Sloppy Jims are always a big hit , as is Spaghetti , even though my Sauce is ALWAYS WAY over 50% meat ... I like Grits for Carbs in the AM , along with Breakfast Sausages or Polska Kilbasa and the like , and Eggs are always in Plentiful supply , of course . Eggs and Chorizo is the greatest Combination in the history of brekkies , I think ! I tend to hit this one All You Can Eat Buffet once a week , mostly because they have more Seafood than you can possibly know what to do with - Crawfish , Squid , sole , cod , King Crab Legs , Catfish , 5 kinds of Shrimp ... there is this Peruvian place that will let you order a WALL of Meat for like $10 Downtown and we love eating there , as well .

Typically thoutgh the formulae is :

30 Cubic Foot Frost Free Standup Freezer .
Buy Meat/Frozen Veg In Bulk .
Know how to Cook your ASS off .
BEcome friends with the blokes in the Meat Departments of your favorite stores !

I only use Blended Proteins (Problend or Pro Complex ONLY) , and I usually add Peanut Butter to my shakes , and I try to use more Natural Ingredients as I can . If I want somethign I make it in stead of Buying it Pre-Frozen . I find I get the most for my $ that way .

Escrima encompasses "empty hand, blades, sticks, kicking, locks, blocks, disarms, grappling"
Basically....everything a person will need to do some major damage!!! :chomp: :eek2:

Best fighting style is whatever you can use to kick someone's ass. If you're 6'5'' with a huge reach, make muay thai your bread and butter. If you're 5'5'' with some thickness than drill bjj and wrestling until you puke.

There's actually a whole lot of merit in choosing a martial art that compliments your body type; that being said, if you are a tall stringbean, and want to do BJJ, just do it. If you are short and thick, but want to do TKD, hell, just do it. But if your sitting on the fence about a style, take your body type into consideration.

The best would be a AR-15 style or Glock. That seems to be a pretty effective fighting style. :destroy:

Ahhh..yes, both are very effective styles. I would go with something a bit more discreet than the AR-15 style. Like...Glock26, P2000, or my favorite...the P12

*LOL*

You also just described Wing Chun , Xingyi , Bagua , Taiji , Wushu ...

If I could hit you twice with red K, I would. You are obviously someone's alt, and if you have something to say/discuss/argue with Djimbe, do it as yourself.

Like your other post, that video shows nothing----all it shows is a large guy learning BJJ.

Ahhh, the quote button...

Damn, you are such a prick!!!! Besides, i'd never vote BJJ as being the number one martial art - if 2 people attack you, you're as fcuked as hell.. I'd choose something like Aikijitsu, Ninjutsu, Kyokoshin, Aikido or Wing Chun.. But thats just my opinion..

If I was to choose the prettiest martial art, I'd choose Capoeira.
