Bench Shirt questions

spatts said:
I have been trying to "learn" a double denim, and I think one of the reasons I'm not having as much luck with it is that the weight I'd need to hold to keep it in the proper plane is too much for me.

I agree 100%

...and then some :)

Hey Spatts and Hannibal , what kind of DD's are you using ? Do you 2 bench flat backed ( westside style ) or arched ?
I wish y'all lived closer to PA because I am sure we ( the Nazareth crew ) could put you well on the road to mastering those shirts in one day. If you are ever even travelling through and have the time to stop up , please drop me an email and we can arrange some training time. The average powerlifter hits a new PR on there first visit with us. You can touch alot less than your max , for sure, I promise.

I've never heard that the Westside lifters bench flat backed. Perhaps not an extreme arch, but you can't be on your traps and be driving with your legs, and still remain flat.

I'm using a Karin's shirt. Believe me, I'd love to hook up with you guys for a day...I'm sure all my [bench] problems would be solved. Fannon commented that I already bench that way, just without the feet tucked (insanely low, elbows in, etc...) I just can't figure out why I get a bigger bench with the tension from arm pit to arm pit, even though I'm benching to my belly button!

It's a mystery. :)

I don't know much about shirts, but I just noticed this when looking at Karin's shirts.
Since you cut it, does that change the feel and help you as a elbows in low bencher?

FRONT VIEW OF THE CLOSED NECK DESIGN
YOU'LL NOTICE THAT THE NECK SITS A LITTLE HIGHER ON THE CHEST. MAKING THIS THE IDEAL SHIRT FOR AN ELBOWS OUT BENCHER!

THIS SHIRT IS ALSO THE RECOMMENDED STYLE FOR THE LIFTER WHO TENDS TO TOUCH THE BAR HIGHER ON THEIR CHEST.
ALSO FOR THE LIFTER WHO MAY TEND TO STAY MORE FLAT-BACKED.

Spatts, I benched with Dave Tate the day after a seminar and thats exactly what he does. Feet in front flat , elbows in, and not on his traps , but with his shoulder blades sunk in, he looks the weight down forces his belly out then he pushes the bar in a straight line from his upper ab. There is that kind of natural pelvic tilt going on but no "forced" arch (ass and traps) like most of us Metal Militia guys use.

please drop me an email if you guys want to set something up.

Big Whitey- Will you be at the meet on 6/7?? I am competing there in the Junior 148's. I am still learning the shirt as well. Do you guys ever pull the shirt off the shoulders on the heavystuff?? I have heard to do this from some and that it is illegal from others.

Bigwhitey, your email is blocked in your profile. :(

On your site, the training seminar date is Sept 14th, but what month is that? If it says, I totally missed it. The next month with a 14th on a Sun is September. Is that right? So there will be shirt work, and then also deadlift work with Bob? After what he did for my squat, I'd love to get his deadlift tips!
