Anyone else here use a belt while benching? I do, i just feel good whenever i wear it. I use it for both working out, and maxing out as well. Is there anyone else who does this? Is this like bad for you or anything? Thanks.

I used to, but then a strength coach I had in college told me belts are good for an all out max on Squat or deadlift....or a heavy ass set of sq or dl, but he told me not to become dependant on it and that training most of my sets without a belt is better to develop muscles in the lower back and the abs, and he was right, I ditched the belt for benching and it was the right thing to do, don't bewcome dependant on it, it is good for protection if you're gonna SQ or DL and leave it all on the platform, but I would suggest you train without it, it will make you stonger by developing your low back and abdominals.....besides, aside from a psychological edge...do u really need a belt to bench?? Lose it and you will be glad you did.

when benching wear your belt, its part of setting up a good base on the bench imo. on me squat you can lose the belt if you wish. but for all bench workouts and DE squat wear a belt, just like in the meet.

You know I have gotten away from the practice of using a belt when I bench. Now when I put one on it feels awkward. I know I should be using it in training, just to get the feel...just something I have to get back in the habit of.

LB...do you guys use a more flexible belt when you bench? Or the same powerbelt that you squat/dead with. Matter of personal preference? Just curious...

I don't personally but I have been to a few meets that people are using them. Most of them use them to hold there shirt down but I did talk to a rather LARGE guy who said he strained his abs benching and has wore one ever since!!!! don't know why it would help but he claimed it did!!!

Just like women...Tighter is better. Now how is that for a mentor-like comment?:elephant:
