background checks

and i've got more skeletons than RNCH

Do share?

Stilleto, it all depends on what type of search they do. Most run criminal and credit check. I don't know too many that check civil filings. I think most school info and job history verification is still done the old fashioned way -- telephone. I could be wrong, but I think that is typical. The changed social is probably so long ago that it won't even raise any issue. If it does, identity fraud is so common these days that I would probably just say that I changed it for that reason, if you don't want to go into the details of why you really changed it.

well, what's funny is- i'm in marketing. who cares what my background is. The job I currently have- they do checks on some people (we make things for the defense and security market, as well as other high tech items) but there's no reason to check me.

The job I was considering also makes high tech security items (lasers).

I guess that's why. I'm hoping that whatever they find on my background won't really make a difference.

True. BG checks are usually used as 'filters' by corporations to weed out candidates. Makes the hiring decision process for middle/junior managers a little bit easier. HR likes it, cuz it's always fun to get results!

For non-monkey work jobs that require skills, BG checks/references are irrelevant.

most arent as detailed as you think (my buddy has been with 3 fortune 500 companies in HR)

That's teh suckass. Potential employers could easily be prejudiced against you even for NG verdicts. I did time in a Fed prison, but one other NG on my record really makes me look like a repeat offender. I'm trying to get that NG expunged right now.
