background checks

Funny on that.

If you want to be an employee or lowly contractor. Clearance is needed.

If you're part of an important contracting company with a fancy big contract - you can work anywhere in the world, and never need one. My old employer got a huge DHS 9/11 contract. I did tons of work for them at offices around the world.

Never once did I have to ask 'permission' (ie: clearance) from the US Government. Not that i had anything to hide. Kinda funny.

Of course, later on - after my work on nationally sensitive data. Just to hold a freakin' M16 and get lousy pay in the army - I had to get every part of my body and life checked out. Too funny!

I'm sure even as a contractor the DIA did some investigative work on you if it involved sensitive material. Not everyone who works with confidential material needs a formal clearance.

Nope.

It's all about the environment that exists when you get past the 'lowly hourly federal job' category. Much MUCH higher up.

We're talking multi-million dollar contracts. Canadian, Saudi, Australian, British, Isreali companies all take part in this (ever wonder why they support our wars? Hmmm!). I've worked with them. 0% of them had to get any "approval" (which is what a clearance is) to work projects.

Heck, isn't some European company making our Air Force Jets now? I'm sure the European who's designing the sophisticated weapons computer system on the jet, is not filling out a form so he can approved by some lazy low paid affirmative action hired govt employee.

You can't do clearances on foreigners in foreign countries. Great little loophole so you can hire any talented person you want - in ANY country (want your software written in India?).

Increased efficiency = saved money = more money in the pockets of the big boys. How awesome!

One of the reasons why outsourcing of Govt projects has risen 1000% in the past few years.

You can't give a clearance to a foreigner, but you can investigate them for conflicts of interest or other worrisome things that would make a person more prone to sell secrets.

It's easier to obtain foreign surveillance and intelligence on a foreign asset than it is a domestic one.

Investigation means nothing.

What happened to those blackwater guys who did shit in Iraq? They're evne Americans and still not in jail!

US has no power over foreigners. The employee can just say 'fuck you'. You don't even have to give them your name.

Saudi companies own so much of the shit around you. Govt buildings, ports, defense companies. No went to Saudi Arabia, did a complete investigation on every employee there, demanded names and numbers - then went to Washing "Sorry Bush. Can't sell this property to the Sauds. They employ a guy who beat his wife".

The USG needs foreign money. Seen our dollar? With that, the USG will give out anything in exchange for those bailouts. Want our ports? our jets? our contracts? our software? Bush in SA what 5 times a year now?

And 'hiring the talent you need, free of stupid restrictions, anywhere in the world' is also something you can easily include.

The USG has been 'on sale' for awhile now.

Let me assure you with 100% confidence, if you become enough of a torn in the government's side, you will be dealt with no matter what your citizenship status is. There are other ways to deal with these things besides the legal system.
