"Deads 3x per week? Are you crazy? lol..."
I used to think I was crazy, until I started deadlifting 3X a week
Now, I KNOW I'm crazy. My appetite has increased SO MUCH since I started this whole high volume/high frequency Eastern Bloc style powerlifting stuff. Point in case: I ate an entire Red Barron's Pizza last night at 3:00 AM in about 30 minutes.
That's 1300 kcal, 50 grams of protein, too much fat, 60 grams of carbs. I usually can't do that kind of stuff . . .
The weird thing is, my lower back feels FINE, and DOMS leaves my whole body about 24 hours after my workout, despite the fact that I'm squatting, beching and DL'ing 3X a week with 80% of my 1RM.
This is coming from a guy who used to think that training any compound movement more than once a week was heresy.
I definitely think, that for powerlifters, high volume/high frequency training can be incredible at increasing limit strength provided that such training is accompanied with assistance for lifter-specific weaknesses, and provided that every repetition is done with maximal acceleration (though the LS can go up dramatically even when working slowly).
