Okay...this is really hard for me to do...but he asked me to do this...and I don't mind at all. I really am speechless as to what to say...so please bare with me.
First of all...His final placing was 4th in his weight class. We still don't know how he finished overall...so I will let everyone know as soon as I find out. After the first event he was 1st overall. After the second event he was still first overall. After the third event he was second overall. After the fourth event he was 3rd in his weight class (not sure about overall), and after the fifth event he finished with 4th in his weight class.
Second of all...He could have not done a better job. He was AMAZING!!! He has more guts and more determination than every competitor out there. I have seen him compete in another competition and didn't think he could possibly have given more...but he did. He gave EVERYTHING he had at this contest. I am SO PROUD of him!
to you...
Third...well...the reason this is hard for me is because he doesn't want to post yet. He feels that because everyone helped him out with money and sponsorship...that he let everyone down. He didn't get the pro card like he had set out to do...but I told him that shouldn't matter. He did this for himself...and no one else. BUT...everyone knows what a stand up guy he is and that it would be impossible for him to think that he didn't let everyone down.
The scoop on the contest is that after the deadlift event...he wasn't himself. He puked after that event. He then did the carry and drag...and did well I might add...but still wasn't himself. After the clean and press...well...he almost blacked out. His face was as white as a ghost and he couldn't breathe. He practically fell on the ground in front of everyone. He couldn't hear everyone talking to him. I was trying to get him to drink some Pedialyte, but he was about to puke again. We laid him on the ground and one of the other competitors gave him some oxygen from their portable oxygen tank. Another guy called the ambulance from his cell phone. Bill Holland (founder of NASS) broke an ammonia capsule so that he could sniff that...which almost made him sick again. The paramedics took his BP which was 90/40 or something like that...his blood sugar was 50 and his pulse was over 180. He was definitely sick.
It took a good 45 minutes for him to recover and he still didnt' recover fully. Everyone was trying to get him to go to the ER, but he wouldn't have it. He finally got most of his breath back and his color looked better. He went out and did the last event (Conan's Wheel) and then went back to the sidelines and proceeded to get a 10g needle stuck in his arm so he could get some fluids in him. I was really worried about him as was everyone else there. He doesn't even remember doing the last two events...and only remembers bits and pieces of the time after that. He never fully recovered from it...he still hasn't, btw. He is short of breath and constantly feels like he can't breath. I told him that he better go to the doc tomorrow...because something is wrong.
Aside from all of that...at the awards banquet...he DID get an award. Maybe not a trophy...or that pro card that he so greatly wanted...but IMO he got one that should mean WAY more to him than any trophy or pro card would. He got the James Littlejohn award. This award was started because another competitors brother died from cancer...and his brother wanted to give something back to strongman. This was the 110% award. The award that showed that he NEVER gave up. It was wonderful..and I felt tears running down my cheeks when he walked up to recieve it.
He should be VERY proud of what he accomplished yesterday...and in NO WAY should he think that he let everyone down. He went out there and gave his best and that is all that he should expect from himself.
I know that I appreciate every single on of you on this board because you have all befriended him...and he is so greatful. I wish that you all could hear him talk about everyone on here! He really truly loves you all...and I thank you for showing him your support and for letting him know how much you all care. I know he is reading this...so...please...everyone continue to give him the support and congrats that he SO well DESERVES!!!!!!!!
I love you, Clint.
