Artificial sweetners and insulin spikes???

Hi folks,
At the end of every session i eat a sweet to spike my insulin, if i add sweetner to my protein shake will this have the same effect??? Or do sweetners not effect insulin levels?

To get an insulin spike, you need to take in glucose. Artificials are glucose free so they won't cause insulin release (into the blood from pancreas). Depending on what you're overall purpose/dieting is, something simple like grape juice or apple juice will be the best for a quick spike (but you may not want to much at one time).

Hope that helps

Yep...exactly. Fruit juices are excellent for an insulin spike if that is what you are after. Most simple carb sources also work very well

Cheers guys, so rather than buying sweets, maybe the kids size juice cartons at the end of a session would be better?

check on a lifesavers package..but a half of a roll of of life savers is equal to the small rescue tube size of glucose that emergency workers use

a diabetic partner taught me that...came in handy for fussy old ladies that needed a quick sugar spike :) cuz the glucose paste taste fricken horrible

As i read this my mouth watered since i am cutting and on a diet but all I could think is how I would sooo eat a snickers bar...lol
