Army Physical Fitness Test - Took One Today

2 min of pushups, 2 min of situps, 2 mile run. For my age (43) maximum score is 66, 71 and 14:07. 100 points each is a max score (300). 270 and above is considered "excellent".

Over the years the pushups have become easier for me, I could do 80, but I save my strength for the other events. Same with situps.

The run kills me. I used to be able to crank out 6:30 min miles forever when I weighed 180, but now at 222 I'm dragging as at 8:30 after the pushups and situps.

My score today: 66 pushus, 71 situps and a SLOW 17:30 2 mile. My score: 270.

I'm can't complain, my next test I'll try to get down to 210 and drop my run time by 1 minute.

Awesome shit bro, especially for a guy of your age coupled with your mass!!!

When I was only about 155, and working out, I could kill that shit, was doing around 115 PU, 120 SU, and about a 12:20 2 mile, but now that I weight about 45 more pounds, and have had reconstructive knee surgery, I havent gotten better than 13:45 on my run. I dont run at all right now, and dont really care for the pt test, and can always score a 270+ just cuz I can max my PU, and SU in the first minute usually, and can usually pump out atleast a 70+ on the run...LOL

But I deffinatly feel you on that fact with the weight!! But who really cares, its not a true test of endurance or strength, I wonder who really is going to be in PT's when They are running into combat, They need to go ahead and change to the new PT Test shit!!!! and dump the run, and go to a ruck style endurance thing!!! But thats just my opinion

i reckon keep the push ups and sit ups, but add some heaves in their. In fact heaves with 8 kg of webbing on. And then the run also with webbing on and a weapon in your hands. Cos when the shit hits the fan, thats exactly what you'll be wearing.

You guys are right. The whole test should be taken in BDUs. A ruck, swim, lift and haul. Combine it with qualification on the 9mm and rifle to make it like a modern pentathlon.

well, you still got a 270, so that's good.

i dont know if what i heard is true or not, but i heard the army is changing the APFT come january 2005. it's going to be pushups, pullups, and a 1 mile run instead.

atleast, that is what i was told.

Its sad, they lowered the score when I was getting out, and now from 2 miles to 1 mile.

Before you know it it's going to be like the Airforce and all you'll have to do is ride a stationary bike and check your heart rate.

the airforce has bitch pt for those on active duty. my ex is in the air force, and all she has to do is 'self pt', which consists of going to the gym, playing basketball, etc.

some of my friends with the 3rd ID have to do pt in MOPP 4.

It was pathetic that they lowered the standards making it twice as easy to max, but who cares anyways,

It is great that they are talking about changing it, but it is alot more indepth than he said, it will be more like 8-10 events, to test alot more strength and endurance.

The current pt test is a joke, it is not a test for strength and endurance, it is a test for push ups, sit ups, and the 2 mile run!!! Its all bullshit anyways

and yes we all know that the air force is worthless when it comes to their PT standards, but you gotta admit they do alot more for their mind!!!

Awesome scores Longhorn! It has to make you feel good when you can smoke the youngsters. ;)

I kind of understand why they dropped the standards (but I don't agree with it)... so they wouldn't lose soldiers to bad PT scores. Soldiers that they can't afford to lose right now. Granted, if you're going to be a soldier you should be able to keep up regardless. They were just starting to drop the standards for women when I was discharged. I had suggested to my CO that the PT test should be a confidence/obstacle course with a pack on your back. He didn't like that idea... he'd have to get his shiney boots all dirty.
