Is all fat the same? The reason I ask is when I was 10 or so (I'm 25 now) I went from skinny kid to chunky kid. I held onto that weight until I was about 15 and then I grew like 3 inches and lost a bunch of weight. I looked incredibly skinny and lanky but somehow I still have love handles and little bitch tits. :worried:

Now no matter how much my weight fluctuates, I still have that adolescent fat that won't go away. I just started lifting seriously this year, and bulked up a bit, but I want a six pack for my birthday (end of July). Do I have to do a special cutting diet to get rid of that "baby fat" once and for all? I estimate my BF @ 11-12%, I'm 6'1" and 168lbs. And before you recommend Yohimburn, I don't have the spare loot right now.

Think I can make it? ;)
 
as it's been said many times before "abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym." If you were at 11-12% bf you should be seeing your abs, at least partially. Sure about that bf%? Why don't you post what your diet looks like, I'm sure there are some people around who could help you out with some suggestions. I'm sure with a lot of hard work and a good diet you can probably make (if not, at least darn close to) your goal.
 
yes there are different types of body fat. Though it is more a function of receptor density and receptor ratios as well as innervation, blood flow, etc.

in your particular case, other than yohimburn, you should look at estrogen suppression (aromatase inhibition) and insulin sensitivity (eat cleaner, "slower" carbs- very small amounts of fructose- NO high fructose corn syrup) and/or using Glucorell.

actually 11-12% is EXTREMELY low for a woman if I remember correctly......

It is, so if the original poster IS female, then she should be able to see some abs if 11-12% is correct. But the stats don't sound female....6'1", 168lbs.

Also, how is BF measured?

Clean up your diet, you'll see results. Post up a couple days worth of food intake.... SPECIFICS ... exact measurement, exact weight, preparation, condiments, time when eaten, etc. The more detailed the better. Using this info, I bet you can get an awesome diet made for you here.
 
Dammit, I don't know why it has my gender wrong, I'm not female!

Anyway, last time I measured with calipers I was 12%, and since then I've luckily only gained lean mass and actually lost a couple of pounds of fat. In the morning when I flex I can see the top two abs barely poking through so I know I'm close. If by the end of June I haven't made good progress then I may bite the bullet and try Yohimburn or estrogen suppression.

My new diet is something like this:

Meal 1: (preworkout)
1 cup oatmeal (uncooked)
4 egg whites
glass of green tea

Meal 2: (postworkout)
1 cup Homemade yogurt (no lactose, carbs or fat)
1/2 cup dextrose
scoop of eggwhite protein powder

Meal 3:
Tuna salad

Meal 4:
2 Tb natty PB

Meal 5:
Grilled salmon fillet
Vegetables

Meal 6:
1/2 cup Dry curd cottage cheese (no lactose, carbs, or fat)
1 Tb flax oil
Blueberries


This puts me at roughly 2000 calories with an even split of fat/protein/carbs. And exactly 1g of protein/lbs of bodyweight. On non workout days I will of course not have the post workout shake so that cuts like 500 calories there. Any suggestions/additions?
 
Generally there are two types of fat (generally).

1. regular white body fat
2. brown adipose tissue (aka BAT)

Think of the difference between white wonder bread, and 12 grain whole wheat bread. Which has more nutrients? If your covered in wonder bread and crash in the arctic you'll last...say...1 month before you starve to death. If you were covered in BAT tissue (or 12 grain ww bread) you'd go two months cause there's more nutrients in the fat.

One of the reasons we should not feed ground squirrels when we're camping. Our food (e.g. wonder bread, chips, crackers, etc.) is converted by the critters into white body fat not BAT. So these critters hibernate all winter using the white fat instead of the BAT and quickly starve to death in their sleep. If we were feeding them their natural foods, that white fat would instead be nutrient rich BAT and they would wake up in the spring, hungry, but relatively healthy.

Keep in mind that BAT is the HARDEST fat tissue to lose. White fat burns off quick.

quite informative griz, ive always seemed to have the same kind of problem, i work hard 5 days a week (3 lifting 2 running) and play sports on top of that, i eat pretty decently, although i have to admit i love cheese and probably eat way too much of it, but that little piece of info about dif kinds of fat was informative and hopefully i am plagued with the good kind not wonderbread

good post... are you also saying that different types of food tend to make the HUMAN body store different types of fat also? and if so, would eating non-natural foods make us store WAT which would be easier to burn off? or is it purely related to body-type/genetics etc...
