Any particular arm position for Pec dec?

Just wondering, should your upper arms be parallel or anything? Any particular biomechanical reason?

It seems to me that you would want your ELBOWS just below your hand height, and your hands at nipple level. That seems to be the place where it isolates the pecs the most. I think the most important thing is to keep "hugging the tree", in other words dont allow your elbows to hinge during the "press" Start with the tree hug in place, and just use the pecs alone throughout the exercize....

Does that make sense to you?

What bullett said, just make sure to be alligned with your pecs. Don't go too high or too low, then youll shoulders and back will get involved. Pec deck is made to isolate the chest.

well.....set the seat so that your hands are a little above nipple line for slight shift to upper pecs...vice versa for lower - smae a an incline/decline db fly

...If you believe in certain exercises hititng certain areas...

I have read that regardles of where you keep your hands relative the chest, the thing you have to make sure is that you keep you elbows inline with your hands - make sure that you keeping your elbows up, that is, dont drop your shoulders or you put a lot of extra stress on the elbow joint. Just make if feel like you are hugging someone, which hopefully you dont do with your elbows down ;)

This is what i have read, but as far as the mechanics of that stuff, i am out of knowledge

OK first of all the reason why I'm doing it is to switch things up and because this bldg has a limited gym and I like to stay here for my chest workout.

Anyways I think you guys are talking about a pec fly machine. The one I have in my gym is the kind where your arms are at right angles and your elbows rest on pads.

I'll try to find a pic.

Alright this is the design of machine that I am talking about:

It's a shitty picture but you get the point. The insides of your elbows rest on pads and your forearms are pointing straight up and gripping a handle.

Is there are particular position, like should your upper arms be parallel to the ground? For some reason I have been doing them with the seat on the highest position so my elbows are at or slightly below nipple level.

Yeaj Jon,

I would think that you would want your elbows at the middle of your pec, and maybe vary slightly to bring in top or bottom of pec. This machine is good for working the center of chest, and not so good for outside or tail of the pec...

You will probably want to do some dumbell flys as well to hit the outside of pec....
