Any ideas of the cause of this?

Hey ladies,

I've been getting this tingling feeling in my hands, like pins and needles, I only get it in the middle of the night, sometimes it wakes me up, and sometimes I wake up with it in the morning.

At first I thought maybe I fell alseep on my hand, but this has happened every night for the last week. And I've been sleeping on my back, with my hands on my chest or by my side.

Any ideas of the cause of this? Could I have just pinched a nerve or something?

Could be a pinched nerve, my fiance has this happen sometimes - only one arm/hand though. He has a pinched nerve in his back. Maybe try a chiro or a DO to see if they can manipulate it??

Of course, it could be something bigger, so definitely research it!

Miss24k, I got a long list of questions for you:

1. Is the tingling it both hands equally, just one hand, or one more than the other?

2. Is the feeling in the back of your hand, front of your hand and which fingers are involved, all five, or only certain ones.

3. Where does the tingling end, at the wrist line or further up the forearm?

4. Finally, is it a lack of feeling/numbness (dysesthesia), or just a pins and needles feeling or even shooting pains (parasthesia)?

I'm not a neurologist but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night ...

No, actually I am a full time neurology/neurosurgical/orthopedic medical transcriptionist, I hear this stuff all the time :)

1. Just 1 hand, my right hand. (Sorry I should have said that in my post)

2. Front of my hand, and it affects 4 fingers, not my thumb.

3. It ends at the wrist.

4. It's not exactly a pins and needles feeling, more of a numbness.

lol you're silly.

I would think you have a pinched Brachial nerve. Two muscles can cause it to be impinged: The scalene muscles in your neck, or your pec minor. So I would say one or both of those muscles need to be massaged to relax. Go to a therapist and tell them you want them to work on those muscles and then see what happens.

What type of work do you do??? It could be signs of Carpal Tunnel....What your stating seems to be Carpal Tunnel symptoms, depending on if you do repetative motion all day? Just a thought...

I should have been more clear in my question, that's my fault, but just to be sure: you have sense of numbness in the palm that extends from the heal of your hand to your fingertips, involving all four fingers approximately evenly, and not involving your thumb.

You know, I'd say a compression neuropathy -- especially if you're doing a lot of hard bike riding or heavier bench or shoulder presses -- but you would think that would show up some other time OTHER than waking you up at night ...

Treilin could be right on the money ... I can't honestly say I've run into this before and I've heard a lot over the years (and have quite a few problems of my own).

The other thought, have you changed anything about the way you sleep, new pillow, new bed?

Sorry Miss24K, I'm usually better than this :worried:

The pain is from my wrist down to my finger tips. I was hoping this would go away but it hasn't it's getting worse. Yesterday was the 1st day it hurt during the day, the last hour of work was insanely hard. My wrist is killing me right now.

I guess I'm going to have to et this checked out, since it is not going away.

No, no new pillow or bed, I have started to sleep on my back only because I usually sleep on my side, and thought maybe I was sleeping on my hand, so I started to sleep on my back, but it's still there.

I thank everyone for their help :bigkiss:
