I thought I would vent because I'm sure you can relate. Here I am doing a hard leg work-out and I'm on my last exercise calves.... So this guy comes walking by and says can't you smile? You know how many times I've been asked that ridiculous question? Yeah I'm going to just walk around smiling at the gym to brighten everyone's day. I have no energy to smile because I'm using it to work-out imbecile. So yesterday one of the trainers asked me the same thing? I said, "No I'm working out I don't smile." He said,"You should or you should go home." WHAT kind of comment is that? Somebody please tell me they find this ridiculous? If you think I should smile I will get some redlipstick and draw a smiley face on to make them happy. Do you smile when you work-out???

WTF?? No, I don't smile when I work out -- I sweat & grunt.... :worried:

I do get teased by one of the workers (an older guy) cuz of my "gadgets" - a HR monitor & Ipod Shuffle.....

Yeah I have a bunch of gadgets also. I think they are just jealous I want to listen to my music and not them trying to hit on me. I get comments like oh you turning your crappy music on again? I'm like what??? I just want to work-out with no interruptions and I get these meat heads thinking they can tell me what to do... and they don't even know me! No wonder they are still single.

I don't smile at all. I stay extremely focused, and that takes way too much energy then to be bothered smiling with. I smile AFTERWARDS, when I know I accomplished something in my time.

You should tell the guy that told you to go home, to go home if he can't shut up. The gym is not for working out the mouth!

LMAO

I NEVER get approached in the gym or asked any questions....headphones and hat pulled low

One guy today was making fun of me while I was practicing posing..... I goofed back a bit but noticed he kept looking at me sideways the rest of the time....

One good thing about my gym --- most of the clientele there are either training w/ my trainer or know him, or won't mess w/ a 300 lb dude who does walking lunges w/ 110 lb dbs. They all know I train very intensely so they just dont' mess w/ me. I also look like hell when I'm in there w/ all the sweat, so that keeps it pretty obvious that I'm not there to "be seen".

I can relate to this. I never smile. I was in the aerobics studio of my gym the other day training with the bag (wrist wraps on and all), and this little old lady comes in. I took my headphones off for a second and I said "Go ahead!" (she wanted to get some equipment that was past the bag). She goes, "You look so mean and scary!". I laughed and told her I was sweet as pie, she giggled and said it kept me in good shape, lol.

There are a few girls that smile at my gym, but it's only because their only mission in life is to pick up the cocky ass "I'm god's gift" guys that work out there. Funny how they never break a sweat either. I swear, it's the Days of Our Lives at my gym!

I'd have to agree with the comment as well that you smile at the end. Today I put in an extra 5 minutes on the treadmill (so 65 minutes or something like that) and I totally smiled just because it felt really good! Accomplishing pushing yourself at the gym is my big win every day. Feels amazing.

My $0.02.
