An analysis of what I did WRONG...!

I went for a PR on the leg press today. I hit it... but I can't really count it as a strong PR. The reps were shallow and shakey.

I had hit a PR last week. This week I wanted to go up 10 lbs and hit the same rep range. I'd planned on doing this all week.

But...

1. On Friday I drove my girlfriend and daughter to San Francisco. We had a blast for three days... hiking up and down the deep hills of the city. We walked everywhere... then took the cable cars back to our hotel.

2. This morning I had a business meeting. I got up late... barely had time to slap good clothes on and get out the door... didn't eat breakfast.

3. No breakfast... but I did grab a big cup of coffee... then nothing else to drink all day.

4. I got home from my meeting... slammed down a protein shake and headed to the gym.

The results:

I got my reps... but it was hard hard hard... and they were shallow. I knew as soon as I started dowing warm ups I didn't have the juice for setting a clean PR.

What did I do wrong?

A. I over taxed my legs hiking the hills of Sna Francisco... then didn't give them a day of rest before hitting leg day.

B. No food till too late in the day. Carbs = strength... but not at the last minute.

C. I was dehydrated. One cup of coffee in the morning isn't the liquid volume needed for a good leg day or a PR.

Just my 2 cc.

The hiking probably had nothing to do with it. The lack of eating played a big role, as well as the coffee, be glad you didn't get injured. But, you know what? Fuck it! I'm sure you had a hell of a good time with your girlfriend and daughter, and even though I feel training is life, family comes first, the leg press will be there next week, and so will your diet, then this weeks PR will be shattered by an even bigger, clean PR.

Look on the bright side. At least you KNOW something went wrong either A,B or C, Sometimes you think you did EVERYTHING right and you STILL don't get the reps/weights.

Next week you'll be back and right.

It will be interesting going in next week. I'll have a full week to prepare to do it right. :)

I'm gonna have pizza for breakfast that day.
