accutane

Just wondering if you guys have heard of accutane (i'm sure you have) and what the status of it is over here in the states since you need a script to get it, how easy is it to get if you source it yourself and what kind of cash are we looking at? I finally booked a dermo appointment which is Wednesday because i was sick of paying and arm and a leg for my accutane so hopefully i can convince them to write me a script and get insurance to pay for it.

damn, damn, not what i wanted to hear. i guess my hopes of getting a script have been washed away. Maybe my background of actually running it 2 times before and getting next to no sides will convince them...

yeah i didnt run it long enough and i still have some acne that i want to get rid of. i only ran it for 2 months 2 times which isint long enough. after about a month off face started to get greasy again and now im getting new spots which is why im gonna try to convince the dermo to write me a script so i dont have to keep sourcing it myself.

dermatologists have no problem with prescribing accutane. The first time I met my doctor he said, "Do you know what you want?" and I immediately responded with, "A couple of hookers and a bag of oxycontin.." hehe...j/j. no, but seriously, a good dermatologist will treat you with accutane because they know that it works, and it works well. I asked my dermatologist doc, "I know my general doc is smart as hell and he's up to all the newest and latest treatments, but why wouldn't he give me accutane? He just said outside of antibiotics there's nothing that he could do for me.."

My dermatologist replied with, "There's so much paper work to do with accutane to cover doctors from lawsuits, etc, it's easier for me to prescribe pain medication than it is to prescribe accutane. That's usually the reason why docs don't prescribe accutane."

After deciding to go with accutane, after a failed attempt using 12 weeks of the acid medication like differin and antiobiotics, I decided to go with accutane. I think a lot of negative hype is all for nothing when it comes to accutane. In teenagers, they prescribe a much higher dosage, while in adults, it's much lower.

I started off with 30mgs in the morning and 30mgs at night = 60mgs a day total. After I developed the 'accutane rash' on my forearm, the doc said, 60mgs a day is sufficient but we can always bump you up a bit since you're still breaking out a bit. I said, "hell yea!" so I went to 80mgs a day and finished a 6 month treatment. A typical cycle for accutane treatment is 6months on, 6months off and then 6 months back on if you're breaking out still. I might get a zit here or there, or a few occasionally at that time of the month (hehe), but for the most part, it's cleared up now. Accutane will correct skin flaws which cause acne, so finding the right dose is looking for that rash on the forearms which is a tell-tale sign. Ag-Guys has it for 50mgs right now..but you might get away with it correcting the problem at 50mgs a day, but it's always better to run it under docs supervision with liver tests...gl brotha..

well the first time i ran it i was doing 60mg on tuesdays and thursdays but it didnt workout so well. second time around i ran 20mg a day till i ran out which was about 2 months and it kept the acne at bay and dried my skin up. worst i got was the dried lips and dry eyes a little bit.

Im running it now(4/5weeks) at 80mgs per day, I will stay on it for the next couple of months then smaller doses to maintain good skin, using it with skinoren and differin.

i've tried everything. when i first got sick of the acne i went to the regular doctor they gave me the usual crap of benzoyl peroxide, antibiotics, etc. then they told me to see dermo. dermo was a fucking bitch and was very rude basically did not want to listen to me and wrote me a script for differen and this other crap that dosent work so she could have her lunch break. i have found out that bitch isint there anymore so hopefully the person i get this time will show some respect.

Most doctors are scared shitless of it. They don't want to give out scripts for it. I don't see many sources carrying it anymore.

I agree 100% with Ulter. I went to go see my dermotologist for bacne and he wouldn't even talk about it. If you haven't figured out yet, Accutane is extremely liver toxic. My doctor put me a low dosage of antiobotics + topic oilment and it cleared up after a month or so.

Don't get me wrong, Accutane does work (as I took it when was 18 years old) but the risks outweigh safter alternatives.

yeah but i didnt have the extremely bad reaction to it like ive heard of people having and im hoping since i already ran it twice i can guilt him into writing me a script so i can safely do it thru him because im gonna flat out tell him id like to have all the blood work done and do it proper this time or im gonna get it from my source again. we'll see how it goes wednesday.

bro..just go to a different doctor. Most derms will prescribe it and to others amazement, yes INS will cover it. It cost me about 84$ at cvs for 80mgs a day because i'm on a percentile co-pay plan (most meds cost less than 10$ - most are 1.00$) so i had to shell out that for 6 months..my friend who went through the treatment was on the cheaper bc/bs plan and only paid 10$ a month..

And when people say it's liver toxic, it's usually liver toxic in dosages upwards of 120mgs to 200mgs - like the strenghts that they give out to teenagers. most likely, they'll keep you around 80mgs and you'll do liver tests every month now that there's new federal guidelines on accutane. but keep in mind, if you go in there all jacked up on juice looking like a muscle freak, you might get treated differently..gl bro

A dermatologist would take care of the problem if you articulate that you've tried other alternatives first which didn't work. It has various side affects which you should be aware of and it will be specified to you several times if you get a script.
