I'm been wondering..since I haven't some flat barbell bench press is ages...and with flat db press I do the 70s for 6 reps..can anyone give me a approximation as to how much you think I could do on a barbell..thanks
There is no formula for this. However, most people can handle more bar weight than combined db weight. But there's also the fact that you haven't used the bar in a while. I'd guess you could handle in the area of 165-185.
I lift 90lbs dumbs and for straight bar I lift 225lbs.
But I have a buddy who can lift 90lbs dumbs but only lifts 170lbs for straight bar so its all diff.

Believe it or not, it's possible....years ago, all I did was dumbells, and while I could do 105's for 3-4 reps, I couldn't get 200lbs off my chest with a barbell, although within weeks of doing barbells, my body adjusted and the weight shot up. It was a mind game too though, I would look at a dumbell, and felt no fear or intimidation they just didn't look heavy to me, but I would look at the barbell, and think to myself"damn that looks heavier'n shit" and it would be....

I'd believe the 90/170 thing. I for db's i do flat 90, incline 85. and for bar: 185 incline, 205 flat. Its frustrating, and i don't understand it. Maybe its psychological.
My worst bodypart is my chest and my bench poundages shows it. I can only bench around 150 straight bar and 75's for dumbell so it matches almost to perfectly
