95% of the people who diet regain their weight

healother said:
not quite true. several dictionary definitions define it as 'the type of food that people eat'. ex: "my diet consists of Mc Ds everyday"..
Granted though there is the other usage where its like, "I'm gonna go on a diet and get ripped!"

Here we go:

YOU used the work "diet" in your thread title as a verb(people who DIET)

Main Entry: diet
Function: transitive verb
1 : to cause to take food
2 : to cause to eat and drink sparingly or according to prescribed rules diet intransitive senses
: to eat sparingly or according to prescribed rules

....according to prescribed rules implies that it is temporary.

As are all forms of dieting

well someone could change their diet in hopes of improving their lifestyle and losing weight as a result :)

yeah, i thing there is definately a negative stigma in our society associated with the term diet. whenever i talked about 'my diet' around people, they always assocated it with losing weight!

i suppose there are a few fitness models who stay lean year round. but even they take breaks for a couple months here and there. also i am not aware of too many fitness models who've been in their profession for years straight. dont most burn out after a few years?

gasp because you were hawt? or fat?

It isnt that the model necessarily burns out, it is because our society is youth obsessed. How many years can one go without aging? LOL

And as for me - I WAS A YO-YO DIETING FATTY - cellulite pouring down THE FRONT of my thighs (not in the back where nature intended it to be), gut and soft chubby arms. I was a fat kid that struggled with her weight and body-image my entire life until after I had four kids and hit my 30's. I got tired of all the struggle and got educated. If I had only known in my 20's what I learned in my 30's..... *sigh* Such is life. :)

What do you folks think of this statistic? I dont have the source, but I'm sure you've all heard it many times before.

If someone loses fat and regains the weight in muscle thats one thing, but i dont think thats the case with most these people.

So does EF just have more willpower than 99% of the other people who go on diets?

most of those 95% don't lose that much to change their entier personality. Maybe 10-20lbs. But they remain 'fat'. Not like they get down to 6-pack abgs, then next day, screw it i'm going to hometown buffet. They lose weight, but r still stuck in the fat zone, so say screw it.

agreed.

im not talking about that low of a bodyfat, I dont mean competition lean, I was talking about 6-8% for guys, which is like what male athletes are. You know, where they still have a good set of abs but arent ridiculously lean.

I just dont see as much of that. Most guys seem to go up to 10-14% in the off season. sometimes higher, depending on how long an offseason.

gasp because you were hawt? or fat?
The point I was making is that a diet will achieve a result but one has to adopt a lifestyle for long term change. I always thought it was strange people would diet and then go back to previous eating habits and not understand they would just gain fat again.

I didn't read the whole thread.

But I agree 100%. Life style change...
