5-htp or St. J's Wort for serotonin?

Without a doubt 5-HTP. It rebuilds seritonin levels. I've seen many young kids "rollers" get back to a more normal state of being using this, as well as deprssion disorders, people seeking to stop prozac/zoloft/lithium and such.

It depends on your goals......5HTP will specifically raise serotonin levels which is fine if all you want is to reduce carb cravings. St John's wort raises ALL major neurotransmitter levels and is as good an anti depressant as SSRIs but not as good at controlling carb cravings. So if you're depressed, go with the St. John's wort, otherwise the 5HTP is the way to go.

It's actually for both(depression and carb cravings) since they seem to go hand in hand quite often with me. Maybe I should take both?

I actually haven't had caffeine for a week 1/2 and I have noticed a nice change in my rollercoaster-like state of mind.

I hope you let us know what you end up using and how it works for you. Just be careful.....I wouldn't take both to begin with. You could potentially get an overload of serotonin and, believe it or not, this is very bad for you. Good luck.

depends on the level of serotonin you have presently, and how much you want to raise it...there are stronger medications out there for that...tho st. john's wort will work well as well, providing

(1) taken consistently
(2) dosage is standardized
