45-Year-Old Newbie Needs "Old Fart" Advice:

EPROM

Banned
Hello All,

I just turned 45 and have been exercising & weight lifting since high school. I realize I'm going to be losing some muscle mass & strength as I get older, but I've noticed a MAJOR loss of strength, mass and energy over the last 3 years. I had actually reached mass levels I had never reached before all the way up to age 42. I was even accused of juicing! ...But now (at 45) I'm like an inner tube with a hole in it. No matter what I do, it all just quickly whizzes away. ...It's like I changed overnight from "Peck Man" to "Mr. Quimby"!

When I lift anything close to what I was lifting before, it feels like my muscle tissue is tearing. I'm actually working out MORE now with less weight ...but maybe seeing 1/4 to 1/8 of the results that I saw at age 42.

I've never gone the gear route. The most I ever tried was andro (back when it was legal) and that never really did much anyway. I'm hoping for a normal, natural solution to all of this ...but I'm open to ALL suggestions.

My questions are:

(1) Is there anything I can do to avoid this ...or should I just go ahead and accept getting soft & old?

(2) What can I do now that I'm in my 40's to get them most out of what body chemistry I DO have left?

(3) Are there any Legal/Quasi-legal/Natural supplements out there that I should be taking to maybe counter some of the effects of getting older (that won't land me in jail)?

(4) Is there an "Old Fart" workout routine I don't know about?

....................Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Thank You,
EPROM

P.S. I hope this is the right forum for these questions

Bite the proverbial bullet and get on some HRT and HGH.. you'll feel 20 years old again.

That's all you really need to know..

well, for (4): avoid squats if you're hips are worn down from "old age." same with deadlifts.. some of those exercises shouldnt be done by guys that arent in great health..

hi eprom - there are alot of older guys on this forum and some of them are doing pretty well both on and off steroids. there's blut wump for one who's 48 and he's a near 280 pounder who's doing pretty well on young gun routines :p.

come over to the weight lifting forum - there are a whole bunch of guys over there who will help you evaluate where you're going wrong.

i'm not sure about the supplements part, i personally have been supplement free.

It's just declining test levels, bud. I'm 43 and it started in earnest for me 2 years ago. Test in a bottle is the only cure I know of......roll back the clock to your favorite age!

If your diet and workout methods are in check, then there are several online places to legally get HRT therapy. Usually you have to pay for bloodtests and the doc would call in to a local lab in your area and you get the blood test done. They then fax it back to the HRT clinic and then the doc prescribes the therapy you want most of the time or you could go by what he recommends. Meds are shipped overnight by FedEx from my experience and everything is legal. Cost more going this route but it is legal.
May also want to try supplements that naturally increase your testosterone like Nutrex's Vitrix or something similar that contains a good amount of Tribulus. I definately get increased libido when taking this but can't verify that it actually raises Test levels.

First off, ...Thank you all!! Damned quick responses here at elitefitness.

MikeFear: I've seen lots of HGH advertised, but there's so much written about it I would even know if I was buying a BS product or the real deal. Is there a legal, effective HGH solution out there? ...I'd sure like to avoid having Bubba keeping me warm in a cold Turkish prison cell, iffon ya know what I mean?

Silver Shadow: I'll definitely check out the forum.

Medical: "Test in a bottle" ...would HGH accomplish this - or just the "Turkish Prison Cell" stuff??

Thanks Again

Growth Hormone won't give you that young feeling...nothing but test will do that. If you are really worried do the HRT thing. Finding a domestic source for the cheaper and less legal route is pretty simple, and the worries for a small amount are more financial tha jail.

hey eprom
i just turned 40, some of the same stuff you were talkin about started happening to me,
contaacted HRT clinic, super helpfull, easy to work with, legit, pharmacudical test with a doctors prescription, insurance paid for my blood work
I feel great and have gained back a lot of what i had lost. in the gym, in the bedroom , and just in general health and well being.
p.m. me if you like I will tell you more,
or e-mail me at [email protected]

good luck old man

It just sounds like you have declining test levels as others have mentioned. You can go the legal route and get Test and or HGH prescribed to you. Then you dont have to worry about the jail time.

2 ways to do that legally.
1. go to a HRT clinic
2. go to your family doc, and have him refer you to a good endo that has experiance with this.
both of those are legal.

also, if you dont need to be that legal you can find a good source and do it your self. It is pretty safe also.

Among others, I think Solid Spine is in his 50's and uses AS. I dont know is he has it prescribed or not. he might be good to talk to about this. Also, I could be wrong, but I think he has been on HGH and not noticed much from it...

Cheers, Silver_Shadow, I used to be 48 but that's behind me, now. :)

Eprom, I've found that as I've gone through these past few years all that's really changed for the worse have been energy levels and recovery ability. The energy levels, I think, are really more a question of conditioning than energy, per se. They disipate faster than I was used to and return slower but they do return.

There's little question that a little bit of testosterone supplementation will boost your performance in all departments but unless you really want to abandon your natural production for good, which is almost certainly premature, you need to get some sound training methods that better suit your current condition. We might be a shade less agile but there's no need to abandon strength and muscle tone. I'm stronger now than I ever was was as a whelp in my thirties.

As SS says, get over to the training forum. The gear will always be available when you feel like coming back to it. Meanwhile, training methods are legal worldwide and always valid, on or off.

Regarding joints etc. It's generally reckoned that wear and tear is more the culprit than advancing years. Anyone who suggests that you should back off due to getting older is doing you no favours.
