2nd week update.. keto rocks

i'm on my 2nd week of a keto diet, too... actually, it's the anabolic diet (where you are on keto for most of the week then you carb up for a day).

doesn't having more fat in your body help control cravings? does for me. i did get tired the 2nd week i tried this diet last time, but this time it's much easier to adjust.

how many carbs do you limit yourself to?

i'm a little confused about being on this diet, though, because W6 (whose opinion i very much respect) doesn't think it's good. i'm on it for now, though, cuz it's the easiest diet for me to stick to. if i give myself any carbs, it's too easy to let myself get out of control. on this one, i know if i have to many carbs i screw up the whole thing.

OK, so spats are you saying I should adapt the anabolic diet style where during the week I'm on a high protein, low carb cycle then load on the weekend?

on the anabolic diet you're supposed to have a higher fat content since that is where you're energy is coming from instead of carbs. however, you are right that i SHOULD eat more cleanly than bacon.. alright after it runs out i will buy no more of it :( i only eat it in the mornings, tho (4 slices). damn u spatts, always pushing us on to eat cleaner... and work harder... keep it up :D

just wondering...

supergirl,

what r ur goals right now, and why did u choose the keto diet to achieve them? wondering because it doesn't seem to be a very popular diet on this board.

i am looking to get ripped for a figure show in april..
i think our diets are really similar.. it is cyclical.. 6 down, one up (carb loading)
but all is well!!! feeling good and keeping the caffeine high lol

"and tons of energy...who would've thought"

You must not be training very hard. I'm not knocking the diet, just the principle. You can't use fat during high intensity exercise and you can't replenish muscle glycogen very well on a low carb diet. What NY does will work, but chronic low carbs with nothing to boost you for daily workouts is simply a physiological/biochemical impossibility. One day of carbs per week is fine if you don't do much to exhaust muscle glycogen.

The other issue is how much fat you include in the diet. Many on Keto diets add fat. This makes no sense because you can only get so much fat into Krebs then it goes to ketone bodies. While muscle, brain and such can use ketones, they are not as efficient a fuel source as glycogen for high intensity work. In addition, because of this limitation to oxidize fat, the fat you eat slows the release of fat from body stores.

Sure the keto diets work, I just don't believe they are optimal to maintain muscle mass unless you're juicing pretty heavy.

I tried keto before, and to be blatantly honest, i could not stand it , i could not train, i couldnt make 2 days without needed carbs..so i prefer to cycle my carbs, i dont have much of a science behind it, just more carbs some days, less others..

spatts do you have a carb cycling diet posted anywahere?
