Knowing that the majority of junk food is processed to the point that little to no valuable nutrients are left...do you still indulge in a junk meal every now and then? (mcdonalds, bk, taco bell, wendys, etc...)
 
If my collegues (@ work) didn't "force" me to eat that shit I'd never enter a fast food chain

Nah, I wouldn't say subway or quiznos is fast food. I eat subs once or twice a week.
 
Fast food?? Jeeze, I eat FAST....does that count?

It's been about 3 years and I firmly believe Subway is NOT a safe alternative.........bread is in extreme excess, meats are loaded with sodium and sugar..........If anything, I'd get the veggie supreme and slap on my own chx breast........
 
yeah im with jkurz on this one. I do not believe that subway, and especially Quiznos, are "safe" alternatives to fast food. The dressings alone that they put on most of their subs are high in fat and other things that most of us try to keep out of our body. I say if your staying away from fast food do yourself a favor and stay away from all fast food. That our make your own subs x-)
 
i had mcdonalds about 3 weeks ago
i hadnt had it in probably a year and man was i looking forward to it

so i get it and eat half a quarter pounder..
tastes like someone shit in a bun and put ketchup on it :(

i'm definently all set with fastfood

I don't eat there often, but if I must eat fast food because I'm on the road then this is where I usually stop.

What do you think of their Atkins menu?

what's everyones opinion on chain restaurants like applebee's, fridays, ruby tuesdays, bennigans, charlie brown's, etc...
 
I think most people eat fast food simply for the convenience.

A couple 5pc nuggets at Wendy's here and there isnt too horrible, but I try to avoid McDonalds. Funny how that one fat guy suing McDonalds made them make those new "fitness meals" with walking monitors and stuff in 'em.
 
Off-season, my brother <----------- will stroll into the gym with a couple of double cheeseburgers and msybe some fries a couple of times per week...........He def. gets a belly on him, but he's thick as fuck............
 
I think I would consider take-out chinese food the WORST FOOD EVER! Do a search and look at the fat, cholesterol, and caloric content of something like Kung Pao chicken or pork fried rice:

Kung Pao has about 76g fat with 42% of calories coming from fat...ughhh
 
Yeah like, once a week the most. Taco Bell. That's it. Nothing else. It's nasty. I feel like shit after I eat it too. I feel healthy, whole, and ready to go when I have my raw oats. Mmm, bland nutrition. Fuckin' A.

I eat fast food about 3 times per year. I'll hit up taco bell the day before starting my cutting diet, and usually hit the fast food a couple while on vacation once a year. Thats it.
 
If i have to eat fast food (usually 2-3 times a week on lunch break) ill eat chicken nuggets from wendys... nuggets are relatively low in carbs and have a bunch of protein which justifies them in my mind. I would never eat a sandwhich from any of those places though. Too much white bread.

yes i do

no way around it(always makin road trips) but u can ok at fast food places

in and out burger on the left coast has several items for bbers and health ppl

macdonalds...grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo

Bugur king ... grilled chicken whoope no mayo

scrubway _ a few decent wraps
arby's=== few wraps or a basic turkey sandich on wheat bread

whataburger = awsome grilled chicken sandwich whith whole wheat bun


fuck man also there are like aktins vending machines too so dont worry about the carbs


unless you are getting ready for a bb contest, there are items u can enjoy at a fast food place with the health food being such a craze and inc's all about marketing healthy items..
 
Ummmm..maybe once in a 10 day period or so. I know it kills it but after heavy cardio, basketball or racquetball, I crave some.

If I'm out and about/need food but have nothing packed with me, I'll pick up a grilled chicken salad from a fast food restaurant (usually eaten with no dressing, a little vinegar, or a teeny bit of Italian). The one Atkins salad at Subway is actually pretty good...grilled chicken, spinach, almonds, cucumber, green pepper--I get it minus the bacon and eggs that normally come on it.

Is lunch meat something that should totally be avoided (due to preservatives and other crap), or is the stuff you buy at the grocery store (Healthy Choice roast turkey) ok on occasion--like once every few days?

Sliced deli meats are fine if there is less sodium and little to no preservatives in them. I'm not sure where to get them other than in stores like traders joes or specialty delis.
 
You just need to eat "smart" if you are forced to eat fast food and restaurant food. I travel a fair amount and I also try to eat 400-500 calories every two hours, 7 times a day. You can order a cheeseburger and throw away the bun, pass on the fries, etc. For me it is more important that I eat on schedule, my target calories, then to skip a meal. If I have a high fat & carb breakfast, like most fast food choices, I will stick to grilled chicken, grilled fish (high protein/low carb), etc. for my meals after that. Almost anything in moderation is OK. Just try to keep your daily nutrient totals in line with your targets.
 
1-2times a week for me,its mainly because Im lazy and dont pack food with me when I goto my girls,and they are all on the typical college diet,of grilled cheese,oreos,coke,and pizza,soI usually just go hungry when Im there or goto mc d's or whatever
 
I eat it every now and then. Nowadays it's pretty rare though - I'm bodybuilding for physique goals as well as health.
 
I am SHOCKED to see how many people responded that they still eat fast food. I answered Never, expecting to see the poll with a huge percentage answering the same as me.

Perhaps it's the fact that I'm a college student with very little money. I cannot BEAR to spend what little money I have on anything that's not a part of my daily eating.

The only time I step foot in a fast food restaurant is as figureskater said - to order a salad - when I am desperate for food. I usually dump 80% of the contents other than the veggies.
 
only if i'm stuck and theres nothing else to eat. Me and my buddies sometimes go on road trips to NY or montreal in those cases its either eat with them at mcdonalds or go hungry. The funny thing is I used to love the stuff when i was a kid but I hate it now, tastes bad makes me feel fat and slow.
 
Never fries or a burger but sometimes I'll get something like a chicken wopper. If I'm really daring I'll have a spicy chicken tender crisp. That's once a month for sanitys sake.

But fires...the thought makes me sick. You may as well sip on a cup of grease.
 
I'll do real good, until I go to this one breakfast diner with my girlfriend. All it takes is a waitress to walk by with an order of chicken fried steak with eggs and I'm fucked. There's nothing like white gravy! Luckily I don't get trapped into that situation except for once every few weeks.

no desire for it unless a house full of people are chowing down, so i avoid that too unfortunately :rolleyes:
 
yeah, once a week I eat like 1000 chicken legs at the indian buffet along with some bread and one of those awesome desserts they do.

junk is good.

junk in the trunk is better
 
i cant believe people actually still eat at mcdonalds!! I havent eaten there in over 10yrs. With all that we know, i just dont understand how anyone can put that shit into their body.
 
i eat fast food like once or two a month, and if i do i simply choose what to eat. here' my list of fast food i got from a magazine and i follow:
Wendy's : Mandarin chicken salad ( w/o noodles, fat free dressing) 400 calories, 27 g protein, 40g carbs, 14g fat.
KFC: Chicken breast: (w/o skin or breading) 140 calories, 29g protein, 0 g carbs, 3g fat.
McDonald's: Grilled chicken ceasar salad (w/Newman's own low fat vinaigrette) 240 calories, 29 g protein, 13 g carbs, 9g fat.
Taco Bell: Chicken ranchero Taco "Fresco style" 170 calories, 12g protein, 20g carbs, 4g fat.
SUBWAY: 6 inch Turkey breast, HAM & roast beef on wheat bread. 320 caloties, 24g protein, 47g carbs, 6g fat.
Burger King: Fire Grilled Shrimp Ceasar Salad: (w/fat free honey mustard dressing) 25 calories, 20 g protein, 27 g carbs, 10g fat.
 
The only thing I eat at a fast food restauraunt is chicken salads whenever I have to such as on a road trip. If I am going to cheat, I would rather go to the store, get some nice ground beef, fresh veggies, avacado, red onion, and a little mayo, and whole wheat buns and make me a real good hamburger instead of the junk they have at the fast food places. Same goes for chinese.

I am a college student, so I have no money for fast food. But at the same time, I have no time to cook (not no time, just not enough)--so I eat about 3-4 times/wk...and if someone offers to pay for me (friends, family, etc) then of course I will eat it, I am poor remember..

I also play rugby, basketball and raquetball many many times/wk..and when the pool opens up, I swim..so I burn off enough as it is

A quick story..when I swam for HS, I could not eat fastshit, it just made me sick. I would swim 3000-4000 yrds a day and get out feeling like a million old dirty one-dollar bills.
 
I eat a foortlong chicken sub from subway at least once per week. Lotsa veggies and no suace. Its a good BB meal in the offseason.
 
Nope... 6 months so far... nothing compared with the 6-10 years some of the people here have... but I am just beginning...

and that Supersize-me shit... that is scary

fast food is disgusting. plus its an industry thats going to end up costing our society a lot of money when all those obese people, most of whom are fairly young right now, start to age and get sick. Plus, the people who work their make $5/hour. How motivated are they going to be clean, or not spit in your food?

I go with the quick casual on the rare occasion I don't prepare my own food: Moe's, Schlotzky's, etc.
 
Chicken salads and wendys chili arent bad. The chili has lots of protein and fiber so its not too bad. I eat salad from anywhere

I seem to remember from Supersize me that the salad in McD has more sugar than a Big Mac... if you go without any dressings you might be ok...but then it would be an overprices crappy salad.

I have Cick-Fil-A char-grilled chicken sandwiches from time to time
only 250ish calories and 20 grams protein with 3 grams fat

but about once every six months.... emotional cheat day is a greeeezzzzy burger and fries and a shake.


Now, pizza is different. Not chain pizza, but wood oven fired real deal omfg i think i just blew a load pizza.

THAT happens pretty much EVERY cheat day. Pizza may be Jah's perfect food. :D
 
if forced to get fast food, i'll go to wendys and get one of their grilled chicken sandwiches, ditch the bun, and a cup of chili. Without the bun, i'm guessin the stats are pretty good.

I ate 8 Krispy Cream donuts for breakfast a few days ago...mmmm...yummy.

go and read Fast Food Nation... if you still want to eat fast food after hearing ther horror stories about the meat-packing industry, then watch Supersize me too...
 
5 yrs with not one bite of fast food... that's including lots of road trips too, which really put you to the test... (ps I don't consider In&Out to be fast food since all their ingredients are certified organically grown)
 
Pretty rare now that I moved away from Chicago and Portillo's :p Fortunately I haven't found any fast food nearly as good out here on the West Coast. Down 65 lbs and counting. ;)
 
Sometimes I can spend hours in costco and get too hungry for the almonds and pro bar my wife packs for me. I just have to get this thing called a chicken bake. Its so damn good ( as far as really nasty deep fried breaded products go ) But I wash it down with a big "diet" coke, so its ok. If I feel too gross after I'll drink some "fitness water" and I'm good to go!
