Best food for carb loading pre contest.

what would be the best thing to eat on your carb loading days before a competition. i've heard of all sorts of stuff from junk food and soda to rice cakes and jelly or pancakes, honey, alcohol(red wine), one person i know drank captian morgan on contest day. any experianced advise would be appreciated.

alcohol will have short term positive effects on vascularity and drop water

bad in the long run obviously.

i feel as long as sodium is moderate, fat is low, and carbs are simple...you would end up looking full and tight.

I think eating fatty cheat foods is not a good idea ever

I've heard about the junk food too, but personally wouldn't go that way.

I have carb loaded with rice, casein hotcakes and icecream.

On the night before the show I eat red meat with a glass of red wine and a couple of tortillas.

I always kept (and still do) my pre contest carb loading regimine "clean". The things you speak of, rice cakes, honey, etc. are usually done the day of the show, pre-stage. Sugars and fats. The wine has reservatrol, this is the main reason for it. Keeps the cortisol hormone at bay if you are the nervous type for instance.

I like pre stage a mixture of honey, chocolate protein, m&m's, and natural peanut butter. Either spoon it directly, or put on rice cakes. I have seen many things back stage, one that jumps out is a can of cherry pie filling.

Good luck to you.

I carb up with sweet potatoes. It also depends on your body & how it reacts to certain foods. My body holds Sub-Q water easily and I bloat from a lot of different foods. ANPB for me on show day is a NO-NO as it gives me gas & bloats me horribly.

The red wine pre-stage (for me) was only to help with nervousness. I only took 2 sips!! Be careful how much you drink as it may go right to your head. Also, a lot of venues don't allow alcohol - so you may have to sneak it in or not include it.

I too have seen different things backstage - candy, rice cakes + jelly, Gummi Bears - including a guy eating jelly out of the jar with his fingers!! Dood - bring a spoon!!

Good luck with your show!

In some instances, this practice can even offer some major benefits for you.

I’ve done my best to avoid binging on breadsticks and pasta for meals. My thoughts here are twofold: 1) my cardio doesn’t consist of a marathoner’s schedule so the carbs won’t burn off easily, and 2) I’d rather use other foods/nutrients to pack on pounds during a bulking phase.

But I’ve been lightening up on this stance lately after reading some new materials on the subject of carb loading. And the truth is that carb loading – or just eating these nutrients in general – isn’t as bad as everybody thinks. That said, let’s discuss this subject further, beginning with the notion that people can eat plenty of carbohydrates and still lose weight.

Read about how to Cheat Your Low Carbohydrate Diet & Don't Gain Weight from Carbs.
