WTF is going on with my Heart??

although a MD who interps sleep studies for a big lab can make easy $150k/yr signing his name to polysomnographic study interps.

so you gonna do go into neurology? :) what i like about emergency medicine is that we only work 3 days per week and make $400k+....no too shabby. no call. no pt follow up...

So bascially you get all the headtrauma cases late at night?

The shotgun suicides, car accidents, blunt force to the head from a hammer in a drugbust types?

lol 400+ k where?

moonlighting ER docs around here hit around $100/hr.

I'm actually interested in genetic research relating to nutrition.

Texas is the number one spot for emergency medicine. $185-200/hr is pretty common around here...heck, during residency i moonlighted for $115/hr as a 2nd and 3rd yr resident. was nice to make the house note with only working one extra shift! :)

yep, we get quite a bit of trauma here since we are a level 1 trauma center. have seen some disturbing shit...but it doesnt bother me much as i was a Ranger in the army and saw action in Desert Storm and TF Ranger.

i interviewed for a residency slot there in little rock. pretty nice program. just too far from home! my wife and young son and i climbed that mountain while we were there and ate some good sushi as well. the people were very nice to us there too.

What was the most traumautic incident that you've ever witnessed involving head trauma?

If you don't feel like posting it here, you can PM me.....

I have the exact same thing and saw a cardiologist, had a cardiogram and a sonogram, everything is fine. The doctor said in (regular people language) that my heart has a lazy beat from time to time, millions of people have it, almost feels like gas sometimes, nothing to worry about.
You should go to a cardiologist yourself just for safety sake and peace of mind.

To be honest, I've had the phenomena happen more times than I can count. Especially times when I was under severe stress, and not eating or sleeping properly plus taking a shitload of ephedrine and caffeine. I believe I was also dipping snuff pretty heavily at the time which I believe can be a small factor. Really I can't recall having the problem as of late and I'm probably as healthy as ever, so I guess it wass related to lifestyle in my case.

I've never talked to a doctor about the matter, I have heard of others with the same problem. To be honest, one guy might go in and be told to lay off the caffeine and another will receive a gauntlet of tests.

have no problem posting it here...2 situations come to mind. one incident a 32 yr old man was working under a fork lift with only a jack supporting its weight. the jack gave out and the 15k lbs forklift squashed this mans head...the only reason he came to the ED was because he was an organ donor...there was maybe 2inches between both of his ears!
the other invloved a shooting. young black man thought he was the OG and another showed him that he wasnt. a .45 cal deformable round took off most of the guys occiput as well as part of the parietal area. he coded in the ambulance so we pronounced him we he got there. that was some nastiness... :)

but when i was in somalia i saw a skinny take a .50 cal round at the base of his neck. i swear to you when i say his head (what was left of it) flew 30ft into the air while his body squirmed there on the dirt road. he had just put a round into one of the D-Boys so he got what was coming to him! :)

I don't know which is more fascinating, the fact that you can relay those in surreal detail or the fact that you've become so desensitized to them that it's nothing more than detached dictation for you.

I had to learn to detach myself from the reality of it in combat or I would not make it home and if I did, I would have brought it home with me like some of the Vietnam Era vets. Denial and respression are powerful mental defense mechanisms. Life happens to some unfortunate people. I do whatever I humanly can to prevent their deaths, but sometimes it is just their time to die.

One of my friends was a grunt during Sesert Storm, he is the same way. It amazes me the way he tells stories about things he did over there and what actually went on. It's really hard to describe the look he has on his face when he says something like "You know, when you see in the movies someone get shot in the back and there arms flail out above there heads as they dope to there knees...Thats actually what someone does whn you shoot them when there running away from you" He told me though he still has days where he hates himself for some of the things he does but he has a young boy that needs him and he says thats what helps him stay sane now...

You guys that have ever had to deal with those type of situtations you have all my respect, i was in the army but never did anything but train so i never saw any action...

Oh shit I forgot this was where i was suppose to claim to have been a Ranger or something like Ol BigDogMik.... ;)

it is pretty easy to expose the ones that are FOS. had one guy on another forum saying that he was in somalia with us but couldnt answer some specific questions...heck, he couldnt even answer some questions about RIP and Ranger School! what a tool. i guess thats the beauty of the internet....you can be whatever you want to be! :)
