When I am holding the bar...my wrists seem to bend back too much

any ideas as to why this happens?

Weak forearm flexors.

Wrist curls, farmer's walk, static holds, etc.

Wraps can go a long way to avoiding tendon problems in the wrist until your strength is up to par.

What do YOU mean by raising elbows? Do you mean back?

If your elbows are flaring out, it can cause the barbell to travel forward at some point during the lift. The key is to keep the barbell path traveling in the shortest line as possible. Any deviation from this line can cause a missed lift. I'm afraid it would fix the symptom but not the problem, and lead to more problems.

I'm still confused...could you demonstrate? :lmao:

I hold the bar with the palms of my hands up against the plates, elbows tucked down, traps squeezed together. I'm not sure I understand the difference between "back" and "flared."

If your traps/lats are squeezed together, then you are probably bringing your elbows back. Stand like that and relax your back- your elbows come down.
I don't have pics of that- i have a link to a video of Rickey dale crain demonstrating a proper walk out. His elbows are slightly obscured by the weights, but its a little visible.
