Is there a scientific (if any) explanation why mentally ill people like people with bi polar disorder are so strong when they get pissed off. I mean like freaky strong. And some of them aren't that big. I have a friend who is bi polar and he doesn't weigh over 200 lbs. at 6'1, but I've seen him pissed and it's scary. I lift hella more than him, but when he has a manic episode I gurantee you he could squash me.

I asked this question a while ago on the anabolic forum, but I'll ask it here now. Also, are there any web sites that goes into detail as to why and how these type of people get this strength?

Might have something to do with fiber recruitment and adrenaline. If you are not motivated, a weight a hundred pounds below your max might squash you. And a person who is out of their mind is probably about as motivated of a person as you are likely to find.

I know when I believe that I can do a certain weight, I will get it. And if I have some doubts, then there is a definate chance even a probability that I will miss.

Ask Arioch, he is very smart.

I dont have the science knowhow....something along the lines of the CNS going spacko and ignoring all warnings from other sensors.

You always hear (true) storys of feats of strength when a person fears for the saftey of someone they love...flipping cars etc

i can take a guess.....

we all have mechanisms in our body called the golgi-tendon organ.

if i remember correctly and i am making some gross understatements, it is the mechanism that tells the muscles when to stop pushing in order to avoid tears or injury.

some people have higher thresholds than others at same body mass, etc..... in fact a lot of powerlifting training works because it is decreasing the sensitivity of this mechanism, NOT just because people are getting bigger.

you ever read stories about mothers who can flip a car if their daughter is trapped underneath? i think to some extent these are exaggerations, but the mind CAN override these mechanisms in cases of extreme duress.

we should be fortunate that we CANT override it manually or we'd all be tearing shit left and right.

i can make an assumption that people with bi-polar disorder may have other brain problems as well.....one of which may be effective cognition of a situation of extreme duress.

just a guess.

OK I'm not sure about this one but wouldn't it also have something to do with reaction without even thinking about it. Like I remember hearing on the radio or news or reading it, that a mother had her child stuck on the bottom of her car and the only the way to get the baby out was by lifting the car, so thats what she did. Now i'm sure this woman never deadlifted before but it was just a reaction and an act of GOD giving her the power to do so. Maybe when these people freak out they don't know what their doing and just do it and that's how it happens.

Just my Humble Opinion.
