Working hard, but not smart...

75 Down

Hey all, I am 24 and I've been on a quest for health for the last six months. I changed from a sedentary, 385lb man with horrible eating habits to a 305lb man who exercises every day. The eating has been spotty, as of late, but I think I have a good sense of how I should be eating.

The reason I am starting this thread is because I need advice on my exercising. I do about an hour and a half of cardio, every day. I've taken up running, swimming, etc. and I alternate between them on certain days.

I haven't been lifting because I can never decide on the best regimen. I've done super-slow, Max-OT; I've done only isolation exercises and I've done only functional, compound lifts. I feel I've tried everything but it's hard to see results, especially when I'm not able to eat a surplus of calories to support the muscle growth.

Essentially, my end goal is to be a fit man. I want to have a bodyfat % of about 10. I want to remove as much fat as possible, so I can give my skin the best chance to bounce back. I feel that a lot of "loose" skin is really just fat right under the skin. I'd like to get as lean as possible. Then, I may want to bulk and start bodybuilding.

But for the moment, I just want to get as lean as possible. I don't know if this would be best achieved through just cardio or cardio with lifting lighter weights for a bunch of reps.

I certainly have the determination, I've been in the gym every day for months. I feel like I am definitely working hard, I just want to work smart.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I'd appreciate any advice.

If I were to lift, it seems like this would be the recommended routine:

Workout A
Rows
Deadlift
Dips
Squats

Workout B
Bench
Military Press
DB Pullover
Pullups

Is that right for the lifts? I'm mostly used to the standard 3x10 for sets and reps, but would that hold true here as well?
