There are so many myths out there that you dont know whats true and what is bs. My question is, does the hot tub or sauna make you burn calories faster?
I think the increased body temp, does actually raise the number of calories you're burning; but if you're trying to do that instead of cardio... it ISN'T going to work Now hop on that bike/treadmill/whatever.
BTW, I think a couple of older fat guys, must be trying to do that at my gym, never seen them workout or on the cardio equipment, just hang out in the sauna (creepy), but they're just as fat (and creepy) as they were 3 months ago...
um... contrary to tx's post, it's my opinion that if you're in a hot tub, your body doesn't NEED to produce heat, so you're burning off less calories to keep your body temp at 98.6. just my two cents.

Same problem at my Gym. There's a dude we call 'the naked guy' who's greatest joy in life seems to be walking around the locker room naked and striking up conversation like "How 'bout them <insert team name here>'s!" He supersets this with sitting in the sauna with his wang hanging about. Again - this is a little creepy if you ask me.
i notice that my heartrate dramatically increases in the heat/sauna room. after my cardio sessions i hit up the steam room for 10 minutes and my heartrate lounges at around 120-130 bpm. so naturally, i think it burns more calories but i wouldn't count on it as the main way of burning cals. post workout it ain't too bad though.
if your heart rate is up to say um 170 or 150 and you jump in a sauna right after you get done like not even enought time like 10 se c. right after you get done cardio wouldnt you burn the same amount of cals? they should put tredmills on the sauna!
when I asked this question before in the forum I was told t helps clear the body of excess toxins which in turn helps the metabolism work more effectively.
