Will squatting wide be less functional?

I'm squatting with the goal of jumping strength improvements. So, I squat in a similar stance to my jumping stance, feet a bit past shoulder width. Wider would be more comfortable, but I'm concerned with functional strength so should I keep my stance where it is?

thanks :)

oh and another thing. people say they squat 'ass to floor' .. well, I go all the way down, but my ass ain't touching that floor. is that just my proportions? or is ass to floor just an expression? haha

I think it's a good idea to train the muscles in the plane of action you intend to use them.

thanks. I guess I'll primarily stick with the stance I'm using. I'll probably try them wide at some point for some variety though

I prefer wide for maximum strength, but I also agree with training something in the way you use it....I use mine wide, so I train it wide.

I only do shoulder width and I feel it all over my quads for the next couple days. For me, shoulder width seems to cover everything.

when I hear "ass to floor", I don't envision people going and touching their ass to the floor... but rather, going beyoind parallel... I go beyond parallel... and I think that is most important.

functional is still very relative to what you want to be functional in. a sprinter may look 'fit' to you, but the sprinter is certainly not 'in shape' for a marathon.
