why sprinting works

Many people say that sprinting is a great way to shed fat. WHy is that? It doesn't last that long and yet people are getting great results.
 
Many reasons, but for starters, sprinting has been shown to increase metabolism for a LONGER period of time than just walking for 60 mins.
 
Most of my event training is similar to sprinting.
People often wonder how I can eat so much and still be decently lean.

Maybe one relates to the other?

Holy shit... I read that article and am in awe...

As it says, sprints can simultaneously burn fat, and maintain muscle mass and strength! In fact, builds mass in the legs...

That said, why doesn't anyone seem to realize that's the anwser? Even me now, I don't even have to gain weight! With sprints I can now eat alot, put on minimal, if any fat, and get more mass in my legs as well! And increase lung capacity? Come on people, you all better fuckin' start sprinting or this high, buzzed, itchy, raging adolescent will have to assassinate you!

Not to mention when I sprint, I get pumped up for a workout. Its that slamming motion when you just open up the throttle. Nothing pounds the lungs like hardcore sprints.
 
Sprinting and weight training burn glycogen.

"cardio" burns fatty acid.

Cardio burns fat while you're doing it. Sprinting burns fat long after.

You can rip/heal/grow from sprinting, just like weight training.

Here's another light bulb for ya: Powerlifting is like sprinting. Heavy/intense, explosive, short. Whatdya know...I grow like a weed and get leaner and leaner powerlifting.
 
It always baffles me how so many people think the best way to get fit and lean is doing cardio so easy they're able to read a book, knit a sweater, or do anything other than cardio itself. It takes work to get in shape, that's why it's called a WORKout :goof: I love sprinting but limit to 2x week. It feels GOOD to kick my own ass :evil:. Great timesaver too.

i think spatts could relate to this one.
She is right about sprinting burning glysogen stores. however a real intense sprinting workout takes a long time. First you have to prep your muscles by doing a warmup mile. Then stretching takes a long time, trust me you dont want to sprint cold. Then you have to do drills, and then the workout, so usually my sprint worouts used to take 2 hours. Nopw days I dont have time to do that much so i do cardio now.
